Disabled Dad Sent DLA Assessment Letter Two Months After His Death – Same Difference
We’re in a new year but it’s business as usual. Here’s Same Difference:
A dad was sent a letter asking him to go on a health check-up for disability benefits – two months after he died.
The grieving widow of Stuart Mullins, 53, hit out today after her late husband was asked to undergo the medical tests for Disability Living Allowance.
Widow Julia, 54, registered his death on October 15 using the Tell Us Once service – meant to ensure a death is reported to most government organisations at once.
But she was outraged to get a letter addressed to her husband from Atos Healthcare to carry out the disability benefits check for the Department of Work and Pensions.
The letter, dated December 21, requested that Stuart attend an assessment for his benefit claim at Newport Medical Examination Centre on January 20.
But Stuart, of Newport, South Wales, died from cancer on October 14.

The thing is, the people doing the assessments are not the DWP. My claim for PIP was passed to them on the 2 January 2014 and after hassling my MP and IDS I got an appointment for 13 December. The delay, and the paperwork were held by Atos all that time. If I had died, would the DWP have bothered to inform them? I don’t think so, they were most likely celebrating their latest “Sheriff’s Badge”.
Not content with just killing people, they even harass the dead.
This is beyond ridiculous! I feel for Julia Mullins. To lose a young husband is so very sad, and then to get this heartless letter weeks after Stuart died, shows the absolute callousness of the DWP. We are all aware of the infinite disregard for people who they are supposed to be helping. Atos still assesses whether benefit claimants in Britain are fit to work, even after being found guilty of “significant quality failures” months ago! DWP are ultimately to blame, no ifs or buts!
