13% of UKIP voters less likely to vote for a party with a Jewish leader – Pride’s Purge

Ed Miliband: Jewish heritage.

Ed Miliband: Jewish heritage.

As many as 18% of UKIP supporters think “Jews have too much influence” in Britain, writes Tom Pride.

And 13% of UKIP voters are less likely to vote for a party such as Labour – simply because it has a Jewish leader.

These interesting statistics come from research by Tim Bale, Professor of Politics at Queen Mary University of London, who is writing a book on the recent history of the Labour Party.

To be perfectly honest, I’m a little surprised this kind of prejudice still exists in Britain today.

The full article is on Pride’s Purge but it’s worth adding Beastrabban’s comment on it: “This is quite astonishing, considering that Britain has already had one Jewish prime minister, at least by heritage, in Benjamin Disraeli [it seems likely that Ed Miliband would also claim he is Jewish by heritage, as he is described as an atheist]. Back in the 1990s the Tory party was led by Michael Howard, who was also Jewish. For a very long time the oldest MP in the House of Commons was the venerable Manny Shinwell. In the context of the extreme racism and highly reactionary nature of UKIP as a whole, this is extremely worrying. It’s too much like the cry of the French rightists just before the Second World War, when they campaigned against the Socialist ministry of Leon Blum, who was also Jewish. Their slogan was ‘Better Hitler than Blum!'”

reminds me of the Kinnock era when as Peter Hain said in the western mail ”the attacks on him amounted to subliminal racism”. If they cannot find anything else they will attack his cuff-links. The subliminal attacks were very much supported by another Welshman who of course does not sound very Welsh . michael Heseltine was fond of ”boyo” as part of his attack. did someone once say when one welshman opens his mouth another welshman despises him or maybe i have got the quote wrong

Ed Miliband doesn’t go far enough, we should not support Israel in any way at all. Israel is a rogue state. They have ignored hundreds of UN resolutions against them concerning human rights and their occupations. There may not be Israeli troops in Gaza anymore but they still control the coast and airspace. With the huge wall and the way the border is operated it’s like a giant prison camp.
Until it was brought up by Theresa May I didn’t know that the UK was any more anti-semitic than it ever was. UKIP supporters anti-semitic that’s a surprise. I think it’s time that people started to worry about who really has the unseen influence in this country.

All those people that corporations use to infiltrate government departments under the guise of ‘secondment’.

From what I remember about Michael Howard’s time as leader of the Tory party, the racist jokes about him were based on the fact that his father was Romanian. Hence the media depicted him as a vampire.
