Police crack down on activists on eve of London austerity march | World news | The Guardian

To be honest, if the police are keeping criminals away from peaceful protests, this move should be applauded. However, evidence seems to indicate that they would be far better occupied looking among their own ranks if they want to prevent violence and illegal activity at these events.

Police have launched a crackdown on activists previously linked to direct action protests before what is expected to be the largest anti-austerity demonstration of the year.

At least three activists arrested on suspicion of offences at earlier demonstrations have been handed fresh bail conditions forbidding them from attending the protest march on Saturday, sources have told the Guardian.

A fourth activist was arrested on suspicion of offences at an anti-gentrification protest in Brixton in April and released on bail under similar conditions. A fifth attended a police station voluntarily and was not arrested.

Officers are believed to be hunting two more.

Critics have accused the police of staging a politically motivated crackdown before more than 65,000 people are expected to gather in the City for a march against the government’s austerity agenda.

Strange, I made a comment on another forum to the effect of let’s hope the police do not provoke incidents out of character to the majority of the protesters. It was deleted within 10 minutes.

Police only doing what their paymasters tell them to do, Tory elite abusing their powers yet again, I wish the protesters all the best only wish I had the health to join them.

One wonders if the BBC will ignore this mass gathering, hardly inconspicuous are they? or will they also do as their paymasters tell them?

Maybe DC will start to realize their policies are not been accepted readily.

I didn’t go to the march partly in case I got kettled (although there were other factors-too far away for example.)

Designer Blackshirts of course, wealthy Coppers would not be seen dead in anything but designer wear…from Top to Bottom, when you review what Leveson desperately tried to cover up, the Police, from Commissioner down, were bought and sold by that dirty Murdoch rag The SUN.
Suppression of the evidence was the name of the Game then, falsifying the Evidence is thier new brief from the Murdering Tories.
Mitchell was a small sacrifice to keep, what he called the PLEBS, on the Tory side; nobody liked him anyway.

The march didn’t get a lot of coverage in our ‘free’ media – presumably because nothing got broken and therefore no ‘shock/horror’ reporting was needed. I do not understand this country – the country of Magna Carta – the government rules with the support of 21% of the people, it gives away £12 billion of taxpayers’ money to foreign recipients of doubtful credentials while cutting the same amount off welfare back here, and there is no viable Her Majesty’s Opposition. Are we descending into the abyss? Is it all over for UK?
