Newcastle City Council ‘forced’ to plunder welfare funds – BBC News

We all knew this would happen – central government cuts funding to councils, then devolves funding for welfare grants and crisis loans to the same authorities. What did ministers think was going to happen?

They know local authorities don’t have an unlimited pot of cash – in fact, they should know exactly how much money is available to each council.

Now Newcastle City Council says government budget cuts are forcing it to use welfare funding on other services.

Exactly according to the Conservative Government’s plan.

It’s more than dishonest though isn’t it?You cannot justify use of funds to maintain services that are non essential when those funds were meant to be for welfare….perhaps the fat cats and useless eaters in councils should take so long hard look at themselves?Employing people to count traffic or harass ordinary people over petty rules and regulations….taking money from council taxes to shell out to parish councils who are more than useless and the other shocking waste of public funds.

I always struggle with economics, can barely keep myself out of the manure but it doesn’t take a Phd in the subject to realise the results of Osborne-esque fiscal policy!
Now he can come out with another of his Osborne-balls and blame the Councils for not managing their budgets sensibly. Of course even better when that Council is Labour controlled eh Georgy Porgy? Thatcher never did manage to wipe the great Labour Metropolitan Boroughs off the map entirely.

And then if there is trouble amongst the voters, local councillors get voted out because of what the central government does.

The knew and they don’t care. Just so long as they and their minority bunch of wealthy tax-dodging cronies don’t have to contribute to society as a whole.
