Gentleman Ranker’s credit card confiscated – he owes the taxpayer £1,000

Couldn't care less: Iain Duncan Smith is happy to accuse others of living beyond their means - perhaps because he does it himself.

Couldn’t care less: Iain Duncan Smith is happy to accuse others of living beyond their means – perhaps because he does it himself.

Iain Duncan Smith – what a gold-plated hypocrite.

The man we currently call the Gentleman Ranker, who once claimed £39 for a single breakfast, while claiming he could survive on £53 a week if he had to (he never proved this), is in debt to the taxpayer, owing a total of more than £1,000.

His official Parliamentary credit card has been suspended.

Perhaps it should be replaced with one of those pre-paid cash cards he’s so keen to foist on honest low-income families, to stop him going over his limit again.

Here is the actual news item from BBC

IPSA said Mr Duncan Smith’s card had been de-activated by mistake.

A spokesman for the cabinet minister said: “Iain has not had his card suspended. Ipsa have confirmed twice in writing that this issue was an error on their part. To be clear no money is owed”.

A spokeswoman for Ipsa said: “I can confirm that the payment card in the name of Mr Duncan Smith is currently active. It was temporarily suspended in error and has since been reactivated.”

Under the system, politicians have to prove their spending is genuine at the end of every month or build up debts to the watchdog and their cards can be de-activated once sums owed reach a certain level.

Among those MPs whose cards were stopped since the start of the year, according to an FOI request by the Press Association, were Labour’s work and pensions spokeswoman Rachel Reeves and former Lib Dem minister Simon Hughes.

Who do you believe, readers – the Press Association or IPSA?

      • hayfords July 2, 2015 at 3:15 pm - Reply

I believe IPSA. They are independent and have no axe to grind. It is just a story to the PA.

        • Mike Sivier July 2, 2015 at 3:16 pm - Reply

Yeah, independent… So independent that they gave MPs an 11 per cent pay rise that nobody, apart from the MPs themselves, wanted them to have.

          • hayfords July 2, 2015 at 3:21 pm

The fact that IPSA gave MPs a rise against the wishes of the HoC would indicate their independence. I do think the pay rise was a good thing

As I mentioned before: Quelle surprise.
IPSA is there to whitewash MPs of any claim of wrongdoing against them by the general public.
Look at George Osborne and the £1 million he made, using taxpayers’ money, on his constituency residence in Tatton. It’s well covered in this blog.

    Suspended in error!!!!!!
Seems to me there is a lot of “error” where that man is concerned.

He will soon learn the error of his ways, when he realizes that he will never ever be able to feel the sun on his face without bodyguards. What a price that man has paid.

And what a price we all have paid because of IDSs mental health issues.
The same goes for Osborne and Cameron. Both have serious issues that need addressing.

Keep on trucking folks, eventually the walls of Jericho will come tumbling down, the cracks are beginning to show.

Presumably Mike as you prefer to believe the Press Association rather than IPSA you accept that the 19 other MPs, includıng Rachel Reeves and her £4,000+, are also being whitewashed.

    • Mike Sivier July 2, 2015 at 5:51 pm - Reply

Not at all. “Whitewashed” is your word for it.
