Jeremy Hunt is ‘living in cloud cuckoo land’ over his 7-day NHS and will be lucky to keep a service on weekdays, a top GP leader has declared.
Maureen Baker blasted the Health Secretary today and demanded five immediate steps to stop a ‘recipe for disaster’ destroying the NHS.
Prof Baker wants chancellor George Osborne to ensure primary care gets 11% of the overall NHS budget, 10,000 more GPs and “an immediate injection of £750million of additional core funding in the next financial year”.
Her other demands include policies to stop the ‘brain drain’ of fed-up doctors leaving the profession – along with more money to lure medical students into beoming GPs.
She also asked for less red tape, new technology and the ‘freedom to innovate’
The moral of the story, really, is that you can’t ask to be taken seriously about your custodianship of any organisation if you put at its head a man who wants to destroy it.
