Iain Duncan Smith: Tax credits were a ‘bribe’ and anti-cuts protesters were ‘ranting and screaming’

Last Updated: October 7, 2015By

Iain Duncan Smith claimed tax credits were a ‘bribe’ as he launched a vicious attack on the ‘tears’ of ‘ranting and screaming’ anti-cuts protesters.

The welfare-slashing Tory was slammed for his failure to apologise for swingeing austerity in a speech that saw him veer off-script to blast the ‘vile hatred of what is now the Labour party’.

He congratulated himself for scrapping the ‘nonsense’ of Labour’s poverty target and said: “Being poor isn’t just because the Government doesn’t give you enough money”.

And he said parents should choose not to have offspring if they can’t afford them after the Tories stripped back child tax credit to the first two children.

His defiant comments came despite research that has left his claims in tatters – showing a minimum-wage family will be £2,000 worse off from tax credit cuts even with the new ‘national living wage’.

Ah, the revenge of the self-styled “Quiet Man”! Never forget that this is a man who claims to have attended a prestigious university, The University of Perugia. He didn’t: the BBC discovered that he attended a more modest institution in Perugia.

Wikipedia says: “According to the BBC, his biography on the Conservative Party website and his entry in Who’s Who originally stated that he had studied at the University of Perugia in Italy. A BBC investigation in 2002 found this statement to be untrue. In response to the BBC story, Duncan Smith’s office stated that he had in fact attended the Università per Stranieri, a different institution in Perugia, for a year. He did not complete his course of study, sit exams, or gain any qualifications there. Duncan Smith’s biography, on the Conservative Party website, also stated that he was “educated at Dunchurch College of Management” but his office later confirmed that he did not gain any qualifications there either, that he completed six separate courses lasting a few days each, adding up to about a month in total. Dunchurch was the former staff college for GEC Marconi, for whom Duncan Smith worked in the 1980s.”

An institution I once worked for asked all staff members to present their degree certificates, since false claims were said to be rife. Those who couldn’t find their qualifications because they had never had them in the first place were dismissed. One law for us, but it seems another for the likes of IDS who has gone on to fame, fortune and power. IDS seems not to be a particularly truthful man.

Oh, ok; and there was me thinking it was because the rich kept everything for themselves and their biddies whilst the people who worked for them and made them their profits weren’t paid a decent wage andto feed and clothe themselves were given a nominal basic state award inder the umbrella of ‘state benefits/Tax Credits’ in order to not starve and a minimal standard of living.
I makes me laugh when these Tories make rash judgemental statements about a persons possessions ie ‘they shouldn’t have any because they’re on benefits’, haven’t they heard of eBay and other auction sites/car boot sales/charity shops? Oops, silly me, charity is an unknown word to the very uncharitiable Tories.

Sorry, went off on a bit of a rant there. . . .

Supposed to be a Christian but heaven only knows how. Lives in a large house provided by his in-laws. What a hypocrite this creature is!

I am so glad I don’t have TV and am not tempted to watch what has been going on this week, I’ve saved my blood pressure from hitting the high mark! I rely on radio, twitter, blogs and good people like yourselves to give me links to info.

I have, up to this parliament, been able to see some sense in what each party says, even if I disagree with them, but this lot don’t make any sense. There is no logic to any of their claims, (the sick working their way out of poverty, cutting tax credits making people work more etc.)

In the face of the IFS and other bodies publishing their analysis which show they are wrong, they still insist they are right! I can only assume that they are relying on the same gullible lot who voted them in to remain gullible and not see their real purpose, to shrink the state, privatise the NHS, and kill off the ‘weak’.

On a more positive note, Owen Jones reported today that he had met one or two young Tories who actually showed some humanity!

He put this bit in, about humanity, as a joke thinking it was to be published on 1 April.

I have never wished my illnesses on anyone BUT to all Tories and Tory voters I wish for them all to have all my illnesses, dementia, COPD, Diabetes, fibromyalgia, ME, Rheumatoid arthritis and a few more, I wish all these my illnesses on all your party and their supporter’s. Live in hell like we do.

Odd how getting paid enough to keep the wolves from the door could be considered a ‘bribe’. I suppose next council houses will be ‘grace and favour’ residences.

Two days ago I saw this berk (IDS) cowering behind barricades listening to the protesters chanting. What a pathetic excuse for a human being this wretch is.

Tories need to be reminded who introduced Family Credit in 1986 for low paid workers with children, which served much the same purpose up until 1999. Yes, their icon lady gaga herself!
