Labour will try to scrap Tory tax credit cuts with changes to ‘welfare’ bill

Last Updated: October 10, 2015By

Labour is to make a fresh attempt to overturn the cuts to tax credits introduced in the summer budget by tabling changes to the welfare bill due to be debated next week.

Owen Smith, the shadow work and pensions secretary, said the Labour amendment would give Tory MPs one last chance to reverse tax credit cuts for 3 million families before they face a storm of protest in their constituencies about the changes when voters’ pay packets are hit next year.

Speaking at Conservative conference, David Cameron said “we’ve had the vote in parliament on tax credits” and claimed once again that the reduction would be offset by the introduction of the “national living wage” next April.

Of course, those claims that people will be better off after the introduction of the new minimum wage (it isn’t a living wage, no matter what George Osborne says) have already been shown up as lies.

This means there should be a huge amount of public unrest as Tory voters suddenly realise they have supported a major cut in their own standard of living.

It will be up to those of us who already know, to ensure that these facts are publicised in the run-up to the cut.

The Tories go on and on about Tax Credits are no longer needed because of the minimum wage.

Ignorant twats! They not realise that a very large number of people on Tax Credits are SELF-EMPLOYED, earning less than minimum wages, and unable to pay themselves more because they have to try to compete against all the tax-dodging foreign corporations which have now stitched up every single area of industrial, commercial and retail business in UK.

Governments of all Parties always claim that they support the self-employed and small businesses, but year on year life gets tougher for them, in my are most of the cafes, toy shops, and other small businesses have disappeared thanks to Cafe Nero, Starbucks, Hobbycraft, Pets R Us, Toys R Us, and all the other foreign corporations which now have UK business by the b***s.

Then Gidiot says he wants UK to be a powerful industrial economy like USA and China…closing down steel works is such a fine way to enable that! Factories, workshops and small business premises are suffering Clearances, to re-develop into endless tower blocks of luxury penthouse flats and office blocks. How do offices solve our TRADE deficit?!

They need to ignore the ‘sailsbury convention’ in the Lords – it was a gentleman’s agreement made in the 1940s – it is not legally binding – and is the simplest way of making Dave’s life as miserable as possible.
