Whatever happened to ‘innocent until PROVEN guilty’, David Cameron?

Last Updated: October 19, 2015By

David Cameron at a meeting of his ‘Community Engagement Forum’, a public-relations exercise to persuade people that he is doing something useful when in fact he is trying to poison our minds by suggesting extremism exists where it does not.

Public Relations Prime Minister has shot himself in the foot again, with a plan that mocks the very bedrock of the British justice system.

David Cameron wants to ban suspected extremists from working with children. Suspected? In what way? Because they read a different holy book? Because they follow a different religion? Because their skin is a different colour? Because they ‘don’t look right’ in the eyes of parents who may be prejudiced themselves?

There is a reason British justice holds that a person is innocent of any crime until they are proven to be guilty of it – it’s there to prevent exactly the kind of extremism that this Cameron policy will provoke – extreme paranoia; sectarianism; racism.

Perhaps Cameron thinks he can get away with it because he’s been doing this to the sick and disabled for years. The assessment system for incapacity and disability benefits takes as its fundamental assumption the idea that claimants are making up their illnesses in order to have an easy life – and they are taken to be guilty of this until they are able to prove their innocence.

In fact, barring a very small number of people, the assumption is completely wrong, but the fact that it is made means that claimants not only have a very hard time proving they really are ill; their life continues to be hard as they are pushed to continue proving their illness at regular (or irregular) intervals as long as their claim persists. In far too many cases, the way they are treated makes their condition worse.

Coming back to Cameron’s claims about suspected extremism, is anything more likely to turn a peaceful Muslim, living and working in the UK, into an extremist than persistent inaccurate claims that he or she already is one – from the authorities and the people all around?

This is another ‘Divide and Rule’ tactic by Cameron and his cronies, designed to create conflict between sections of society and divert attention away from the brutalities inflicted on all of us by the Conservative Government.

The prime minister set out his thinking in a post on Facebook, as he announced plans to ban suspected extremists from working with children.

He will also extend powers that allow parents to request the cancellation of passports for their children if they are suspected of wanting to travel to fight for Islamic State (Isis), increasing the age limit from under-16s to under-18s.

And is he expressing any criticism or even vague reservations about Saudi Arabia where so much extremist doctrine and action originates and is fomented and financed by the ruling class?

Innocent until PROVEN guilty. There is one group of people that does not apply to and they are nurses. Employers and disaffected HCAs can make false allegations against a nurse to the NMC and it is accepted as TRUE! There is no questioning of it! No investigations to establish truth!
Employers use the NMC to get rid of whistleblowers and the nurses who are active against bad standards in nursing
We all know the government is corrupt The NMC are worse

Yes Ann you are right about whistle blowers getting a hard time of it without their being any investigations. However I do agree with Mr Cameron about British Youths being hijacked into a situation that has been out of control for thousands of years and some thing this country should not engage in other than to keep our shores and country safe.

I think this has some merit. Extremist views such as those held by climate change or evolution deniers, members of Ukip and the lunatic fringe of the Tory party should be kept well away from impressionable young minds.

I would define the govt as extremists, also papers such as the Daily Mail that are inciting hatred daily against disabled people and others claiming benefits.
And eventually anyone who opposes this govt will be labelled an extremist.

The whole lot are extreme and need looking at from the neck up. This time I agree with some of these principles that David Cameron is saying, this whole country is full of extremists’ in one form or another and children in today’s society are exposed to a lot more than my generation were and we weren’t without our problems then either. Perhaps Mr Cameron needs to be more specific when he uses’ words’ extreme and terrorism.
