Another Tory hypocrite: Former IDS adviser speaks AGAINST tax credit cuts and votes FOR them

Last Updated: November 4, 2015By

Baroness (Philippa) Stroud. One might suggest she should be de-robed but if anyone took it literally the result would be too grisly to contemplate.

A leading Tory Party think tank has warned George Osborne his tax credit cuts could discourage the lowest-paid from seeking work and told him the government needs to soften the cuts to help poor families.

The warnings come in a report released today by the new Executive Director of the Centre for Social Justice Philippa Stroud, in which even the former Iain Duncan Smith adviser tells Osborne:

“Why have a surplus if we can’t protect those on the lowest pay, doing the right thing by taking work?”

Interestingly, Ms Stroud has a second day job as Tory peer Baroness Stroud.

Who, erm … voted against softening the effects of the chancellor’s tax credit cuts just last week.

Speaking of tax credits, I only found out today that when you lose your tax credits, as is proposed for many, you also lose entitlement to a range of health-related benefits like free eye-checks etc. So, when you have less money, you’re expected to pay more. Good old Tories, eh? :-)

The only thing the Tories know how to do is to be underhand, and what with wanting to privatise the NHS anyway. . . .

Too grizzly to contemplate I am still cringing at the thought, yet another member of the clan, it’s endless.

Why don’t they just sell us all as slaves we may get a better life than the one they are making for us now.

Don’t put ideas in their heads!

I believe they have sold us as slaves, that’s part of the point of the Hinkley C deal. We’ll be working to make the Chinese rich.

Are these speeches staged to give the impression the Conservatives actually have some compassionate members?

The comment about literally disrobing her being grisly to contemplate is totally out of order. How she looks is irrelevant. Please do your politics without doing sexism.

    • Mike Sivier November 4, 2015 at 1:19 pm - Reply

By de-robing a member of the House of Lords, I very clearly meant removing their title (and therefore their right to sit in the House). If we had been discussing a man and I had made the comment you find offensive here, would you have objected on the grounds of sexism then?

      • mili68 November 4, 2015 at 1:23 pm - Reply

Speaking as a feminist I cannot believe that another person (male or female) could have been that ill informed that they really thought you meant ‘de-robing’ was an attack on how she looked and was a sexist comment!
Probably a ‘plant’ by the Tories!!

Let’s not dwell on it, eh?

Actually Mike it wasn’t that obvious, so thank you for clarifying. Thank you for everything you do.

    Phillipa Stroud is seriously dodgy

    from http://the-klaxon.blogspot.co.uk/

    30) Phillipa Stroud is the head of the Centre for Social Justice, the right wing thinktank set up by Iain Duncan Smith in 2004. Conservative high-flyer Philippa Stroud founded a church that tried to ‘cure’ homosexuals by driving out their ‘demons. She frequently lobbies IDS’s department on behalf of the Centre for Social Justice. Philippa Stroud stood as a Conservative candidate for Sutton and Cheam in the 2010 election. For her role as special adviser to Duncan Smith, Stroud is paid an annual salary of £94,000. Believes in “joyful female submission”.
