‘Go back to work’, DWP tells man who suffered four heart attacks

Last Updated: November 12, 2015By

A TENANTS’ champion who has been told he must go back to work despite having four heart attacks says he has been left “financially destitute” and shivering cold with only a duvet to keep him warm.

The 61-year-old man – a longstanding District Management Committee activist who did not want to be named – has been fighting for his Employment Support Assessment (ESA) benefits to be reinstated after they were removed following a “work capability assessment” on September 9.

The man has been diagnosed with pancreatitis, heart disease and suffers from “anxiety and stress”, according to his appeal letter, which adds that his condition has “deteriorated considerably” since the test.

“I am financially destitute after this decision was made,” the man said in his letter, seen by the New Journal. “I am unable to heat my home and pay for my heating costs, and because of this my health has been affected. I have received no social security benefit since the decision was made and I am living in a home where my only form of warmth is a duvet cover.”

On Tuesday, the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) dismissed his appeal saying they did not have to take this into consideration and are satisfied that his condition is not “uncontrollable or life-threatening”.

    Shocking.
6bn for the fossil fuel industry but not a measly £315 for JSA to keep someone warm and fed?
Something wrong with this government’s values???
Oh, but we’re all in bed together!

“his condition is not “uncontrollable or life-threatening” …………….a single heart attack can be life-threatening, the first one could be fatal, yet the DWP reckon that FOUR heart attacks aren’t life threatening? No doubt a decision made after a WCA conducted by a Maximus bed-pan washer? I suspect the DWP’s decision is a petty, vindictive act of revenge against a thorn in the Establishment’s side.

“uncontrollable or life-threatening”, is this now the bench mark for awards of disability benefit?

My god what a civilized country we are. The Torys have made Britain a third world country. You would not treat an animal like this but the Nazis in government think this is how to treat the people of Britain. The scum should get a taste of their own medicine and feel true fear. Treat people like scum and they start acting like scum, gallows at the ready. Total Tory b*****ds.

On the face of it this was a harsh decision and the consequences of their decision appear to be well out of order leaving him destitute. With respect with that health list and being a 61 years of age his prospects for a job must be very restricted. He has been left no better than those camped outside of Calais who at least get hot meals and volunteers caring for them. Herr Smith stormtroopers win again. He seems saavy hope the media homes in on his, and many others, plight under this oppressive system.

Whoever (WHATEVER) was allowed to be a position to make such a dreadful judgment deserves to freeze and starve to death. It is a pity that the poor man would not give his name so that the matter could be pursued further; much further!

There seems to be no end to the terrible way sick people are being treated. As the BBC will not report this are there any other channels around the world that will so the Government can be shown for what it is to other countries also in the hope that Britons around the world can be shown what is happening and how evil the Government is.

Get rid of all these ego centred morons who lack empathy and compassion for any one suffering with long term illness and get rid of the morons who vote them in.
