Russell Howard tells it like it is about tax credits and tampons (STRONG LANGUAGE)

Russell's opinion of Philip Davies after the Shipley filibusterer talked out a proposed law to help carers park at hospitals.

Russell’s opinion of Philip Davies after the Shipley filibusterer talked out a proposed law to help carers park at hospitals.

This Blog has been waiting more than a week to put up this clip of Russell Howard taking the Tories to task over their plan to cut tax credits and their refusal to end the tampon tax.

Here it is, but be warned – the language is spicy!

Russell is originally from Bristol, just like This Writer. He has been dishing it out to our dish-faced prime muppet since his new serious began on BBC2 a few weeks ago. It airs at 10pm every Thursday – last time round he gave Philip Davies a trouncing for talking out the Bill to end hospital parking charges for carers.

As a carer myself, I could not agree with Russell more.

He’s absolutely right about google, starbucks and amazon (which is why I use duckduckgo, a local community cafe and alternative retailers).

The tampon tax is a false story. Tampons were originally taxed at a higher rate. The government reduced the tax to 5%. This is the lowest that they can charge legally. EU rules are that anything that has VAT added cannot be changed to nil tax. The most that could be done was to reduce the tax to the minimum allowed. The government would like to remove the tax altogether and is making representations to the EU to achieve that. This was spelt out in the recent debate on the subject.

You can indeed charge VAT at a rate of zero per cent, which is the minimum allowed.
The problem is the definition of tampons as a ‘luxury’ – for which a minimum tax of 5% is mandatory.

The UK cannot reclassify tampons as non luxury or zero rate them. The choice is made by the EU.

        http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/article/31299254/why-the-tampon-tax-is-here-to-stay—for-a-while-at-least

A spokesman for HMRC says: “The application of VAT in the EU, including rates and flexibilities afforded to member states such as the UK, is governed by EU law.

“The UK applies a 5% reduced rate of VAT to the supply of sanitary products. This is the lowest rate possible under EU VAT law.”

          Really?
What a shame Cameron isn’t trying to renegotiate THAT, then!
Except… oh yes. That was precisely what he was being asked to do.

No!!! The tampon story is completely true!!! The only things that do not have tax attached to it is children’s clothes!!!

Wow I liked that!!! it is so true, though unusual topic for a man to bring up, the list though, one thing in there is essential like the adult nappies but for people who are genuinely incontinent. from now on I am going to refer to cameron as prime Muppet!!!

If you get a Raspberry Pi duckduckgo is the default search engine. There are also a lot of rich individuals who donate to the Conservative Party that do not pay the same rate of tax as 99 per cent of working people – Sir Phillip Green (brother of the Green who wanted to be treasurer of the Tories ), settled with HMR a 400 million pound payment from an estimated ‘salary’ of 3 billion pounds. Hell, you could never spend that lot in 10,000 life times.
A lot of Bristolians frequenting this blog.

It has made my day, reading that a lot of Bristolians read VP!
I do hear about some of them when I talk to family members back home.
It’s good to think people who knew me back in the day might still be keeping in touch with what I’m doing.

what a shame that people still dont realise that over 80% of u.k laws are ruled on by the undemocratic state of europe as h.m the queen and succesive governments have sold our soveriegnty to a foreign state, which is nothing less than treason isnt it##

    • Mike Sivier November 15, 2015 at 2:26 pm - Reply

The Queen has very little to do with it.

      • digger November 16, 2015 at 1:05 pm - Reply

Mike the queen ratified all the e.u treaties so how can it have very little to do with her?

        • Mike Sivier November 16, 2015 at 1:12 pm - Reply

She gave them Royal Assent, as is required of her by UK law. They were ratified by the various UK governments at the times in question.
If the Queen played an active role in politics there would be a constitutional crisis. I’m surprised readers of This Blog still haven’t understood this.

this is another perfect example of the elephant in the room that the sheeple cant see if we leave the e.u this is irelevant as we could go back to making our own laws and taxing what we want and also not taxing what we want a?
