Why we need a Tenant Campaign Group – Time to Act! | SPeye Joe (Welfarewrites)

Last Updated: November 15, 2015By

Here are just a few basic reasons put as simply as possible as to why all social tenants need to mobilise and get on board with the Tenant Campaign Group.

Make no mistake the Conservatives want to get rid of social housing and you can read about Osborne’s plan to privatise social housing here together with why the TCG is the best if not the only way to prevent that catastrophe.

The initial response to setting up the TCG – a fully independent and tenant led campaign group – that is all positive, you can read about here  and a simple poll is there on an important issue and please vote. It also says why the TCG is mutually beneficial to tenant and to social landlord.

When the last council house has gone, the councils will be gunning for horrific council tax rises as revenue from rents will be gone.
With all the cuts to the bone regarding local councils, this will be a car crash.

Perhaps councils will hand themselves back to the government because they are broke, and then the government can tender them out to the highest bidder.

its time something was done about council tax we will be paying more and more for less and less services.its nothing but legalised robbery.
it more or less started when the collection of defucnt fridges, washers, etc was taken out of council tax and councils started charging for each item, and what happened the start of the fly tipping problem, caused by the councils themselves.
people are not going to put up with been charged twice for the same service, which is what it boils down to.

This sounds like a re-play of Tenant Participation staged in the big give away of 1998-2000. One which was set-up and funded to placate legal obligation & circumvent administrative criticism. If (TCG) is truly independant, all good, but infiltration by opponents is probable.

Houses have become a commodity rather than a utility – house prices increasing is seen as a good thing rather than a negative one. There needs to be a positive alternative – at the moment it’s a toss up between spending years working to pay off a debt generated by a computer or indefinetely paying a fortune to a landlord. (Co-operative housing and communes sound narrowly better than being homeless but that’s it). If tennants work together, they might be able to make things better.

The proposed cuts to Housing Benefit along with Bedroom Tax and Tax Credit will affect Homeowners too, why are they not included in your plans? If this gets off the ground, s Treasurer of my local Neighbourhood Association I would willingly collect a one off fee of 50p,and I’m sure others in a similar position would do so too.

You’re quite right in what you are saying, if people would only realise that if they united thiey can achieve so much.
