Blaming Leytonstone stabbing on Syria vote would be ‘dangerous’ warns senior Labour MP

Does anyone think he’s right?

John Cryer, who represents the east London seat and leads backbench MPs in the Parliamentary Labour Party, said he wasn’t convinced the ‘appalling’ attack and airstrikes were linked.

Police have launched a terror investigation into last night’s incident which left three injured amid claims the alleged knifeman shouted: “This is for Syria” .

Standing outside the crime scene Mr Cryer – who voted against airstrikes – told the BBC’s Sunday Politics: “I’m not convinced that this will be connected to the airstrikes on Syria.

“We just don’t know at the moment. But there doesn’t seem to be immediate evidence that there is a direct link.

The allegation that the knifeman shouted “This is for Syria” seems pretty direct!

The Knife wielder was shouting “This is for Syria” and Mr. Cryer doesn’t consider this a link?
Er, just how much evidence constitutes a link???
What does it take to get oneself elected to a £74,000 per annum job these days? No wonder Labour didn’t get elected.

For the sake of balance: Unintelligent Conservatives, Liberal Democrats and members of every other party also exist.

Sounds like he’s sticking his fingers in his ears and going la-la-la-la-la. If the perpetrator says “This is for Syria” then I suppose that’s exactly what he meant.

Unless he was misheard, he could’ve said cereal or Siberia, or bacteria…

The attacker’s use of the words, “This is for Syria!” did seem like a bit of a giveaway to me as well.

“The allegation that the knifeman shouted “This is for Syria” seems pretty direct!” Yeah but… in what way for Syria? Because it’s being bombed? Because it’s being taken over by Daesh? Because Turkey, among others, is buying oil from Daesh? Because he supports Assad? Not very direct, as far as I can tell. In fact, this shout seems to sum up the whole problem — it can be interpreted in many ways.

But the mention of Syria means there is a prima facie case for linking it with current events.
