Conservatives Want Primary Schoolchildren to Be Taught To Work Not Live on Benefits | Beastrabban\’s Weblog
This is how desperate the Tories are to try to stop people claiming unemployment benefit. According to a couple of pieces in today’s I, the Tories want children in primary schools to be taught about work and careers in order to stop them claiming benefits. It says in the article on page two, Primary Children ‘to Attend Career Talks’ that
Ministers are considering proposals that would oblige children to attend careers talks before they finish primary school to help discourage them from claiming benefits in the future. The initiative will be particularly relevant in communities with high adult unemployment, but teaching unions feel careers talks at 11 could be “too much too soon”.
This was all outlined in a speech given by Sam Gyimah, the education and childcare minister, to the Westminster Employment Forum.

If they want people to work they should create jobs! As long as there is an army of reserve labour, people will require welfare – Cameron and Osborne do not understand the majority of us cannot rely on our trust funds! And wanting to work is no safeguard against being too ill to work.
Surely the tories would prefer them up chimneys
I remember something equally daft happening in a few local schools roundabout where I live, i.e., classes in business and entrepreneurship for five to seven year olds! No I am not joking! No I am not making it up!
So propaganda is to start in the classroom. Dark days :(
It’s been coming in ever since Gove started as Ed Sec.
It has already been mentioned, but we should never forget that many Tories fought tooth and nail to keep child labour in factories and up chimneys. Many of todays nasty Tories yearn for a return to what they euphemistically describe as “Victorian values”.
Why do we teach our kids maths,English and physics in order to add on to pieces of machinery etc which help the few and not the many. Why do we teach them how to make better nets,boats and rods rather than teaching them how to fish and then wonder why there taking the fish instead of catching his own. Why is it that they are being taught everything but the actual fishing?
Why should we be teaching them to work instead of teaching them how to live sustainably by simple means. Why do people take the viewpoint that kids who have ended up on the dole have been taught wrong Instead of the viewpoint that the child’s brain has developed enough to realise that he has little choice other than to be someone else’s labour or to claim dole. People on dole would probably give their life for a home which has clean water, animals,crops etc so their kids could live a self sustainable life. The problem is that it is hard and getting harder to live off of the land and not the corporations. The problem is that dole is giving a man a Big Mac instead of giving the man the field, crops and animals needed. Work should be a fair and helpful way of becoming independent and not a easy way to increase and sustain profits. The problem is not with the kids learning but the teachings.
