Tories pressure the Tory Government to water down plan that could deprive Labour of £8m a year in funding

It seems there are some Conservatives with a modicum of sense in this matter.

What a shame none of them appear to be in the current Tory cabinet.

The Government is under pressure from senior Conservatives to water down a controversial plan that could deprive Labour of £8m a year of funding from the trade unions.

A growing number of Tory MPs and peers believe that forcing union members to “opt in” to paying the political levy is partisan and divisive and will undermine David Cameron’s attempt to portray the Conservatives as a One Nation “party of working people.”

A cross-party rebellion against the Trade Union Bill in the House of Lords could force a government U-turn. A committee of peers, which took evidence on iton 4 February, may conclude that ministers have not published a proper impact assessment and ask them to think again.

In a separate attack on Labour’s funding, George Osborne announced in November a 19 per cent cut in the state funding for opposition parties. Labour will lose about £1m a year.

Several Tories say the move on union donations should go ahead only as part of a wider review of how all parties are funded, which would shine a spotlight on the Conservatives’ dependence on rich donors, including City financiers.

It’s almost pathetic that Tory MPs are now waking up to the totalitarian tendency of Cameron, & mates who are riding rough-shod over the conventions of democracy (in this case ignoring the “cross party consensus” convention for party funding. This is part of the wider pattern of a total disregard for the HoC as anything other than a rubber stamp. It’s a mark of the disappearance of democracy, shown in the excessive use of Si’s and failure to appear in front of the house & committees, down to blatant lying, repeatedly, in the chamber. Jack boots, smashing down on our faces.

The Tories are trying to ensure they never leave Government by fair means or fowl. It is up to the rest of us to stop this and keep our country a democracy so Labour under Jeremy Corbyn takes over Government as soon as possible or the Tories will sell off everything that is British and we will not have a country left to call our own.

Cheating, corruption and gerrymandering. That is the Tory Party. It is their funding which needs to be fully investigated.

A complete overhaul of the Electoral System needs to be done, preferably before Cameron and his cohorts rig everything in their favour by 2020. Mind you, it is worth remembering that the British people do not like cheats – of any sort. Cameron &Co have certainly proven to the electorate that they are cheats of the first and worst order.
