Warning Tory housing benefit plan will have ‘catastrophic impact’ on vulnerable

Last Updated: February 8, 2016By

What he wants: George Osborne’s changes to housing benefit mean women and children fleeing domestic violence, the disabled and the homeless may end up with nowhere to go.

This is more sickness from the Party that Persecutes the Vulnerable.

George Osborne’s sick changes to housing benefit mean the most vulnerable people living in refuge accommodation – women and children fleeing domestic violence, the disabled and the homeless – will be asked to stump up thousands of pounds more for their rent or their accommodation will close.

This is what Osborne wants. The DWP’s protestations of offering £870 million to cover people “who need time to adapt” are pathetic because this money won’t be anything like enough.

These vulnerable people are going to end up on the street.

That’s what your votes have done.

That’s ‘Compassionate Conservatism’ for you – a sick joke.

Don’t make the same mistake in May.

Plans by the UK Government to change housing benefit will have a “catastrophic impact” on vulnerable people living in supported accommodation, including victims of domestic violence, disabled people and the homeless, Scotland’s social justice secretary has warned.

Alex Neil has written to Lord Freud, UK Minister of State for Welfare Reform, seeking urgent clarification over proposals which would ‘cap’ the amount of housing benefit tenants of social landlords can receive.

Concerns have been raised it will not be enough to cover higher rents in supported accommodation and refuge services – which have more intensive management costs – and providers will be left struggling to keep their doors open.

It means Local Housing Allowance (LHA) – which works out housing benefit entitlement and was previously only applicable to people renting from a private landlord – will now also apply to tenants of social landlords from April 2018.

However last week a survey carried out by Scottish Women’s Aid found that a cap linked to the LHA rate would result in an annual loss of at least £5,800 for a two-bedroom refuge flat in a rural area and £11,600 per year for a three bedroom refuge in a semi-urban area.

So the supposedly quality paper, The Herald, takes 5 days to crib an article from last Tuesday’s National. They probably spent the time trying to find a way to disprove the content.

      Or to substantiate it, perhaps.

This is just the lowest form of Social clensing that one can resort to. Flushing out the poor and vulnerable to enhance areas for potential redevelopment. This will certainly increase their suicide target rates considerably.

This government wants more homeless people.

This will be a political suicide for local councils.
When the refuge homes are gone, and the childcare homes are full, because of social services taking children into care from abusive homes, councils will be the first to moan and whine.

Local councils are no more than Tory storm-troopers.
Councils need to stand up to Osborne, rather than being the,” yes sir, no sir” “anything you say sir”.

That’ll mean more children for their paedo rings. I don’t know why the Tories don’t just exterminate the poor and the weak.

I guess that is the downside of politics in Local Government where the supposed representation of local population is lost to main stream dictator policies. Many councillors forget who they represent and blindly ask how high their whitehall masters want them to jump. I also note many are sadly well past their sell by date uttering complete nonsense on our local radio. In fairness I give some credit to the few Tory councillors that can see through the kamikazi mentality of their Whitehall colleagues and do support local communities and projects without political bias…just wish there were more with a moral compass..
