US election 2016: Trump wins South Carolina, as Clinton takes Nevada

Last Updated: February 21, 2016By

Donald Trump: “Winning is beautiful,” he says.

More interesting than Trump’s win is the fact that Bernie Sanders is picking up minority ethnic votes.

He had been trailing in that respect, but the results showed that Hispanics supported him in Nevada, although Afro-Caribbean Democrats have yet to be convinced.

Sanders is trailing Hillary Clinton by more than 400 delegates – due, This Writer understands, to her familiarity with the Democrat Party’s mainstream. While he remains the most interesting frontrunner, he has a lot of ground to make up.

The Republican race is much closer at the moment, with Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio practically neck-and-neck, around 50 delegates behind Trump.

Donald Trump has won the South Carolina primary in the Republican race for president, cementing his status as the man to beat for his party’s nomination.

In the Democratic contest, Hillary Clinton beat Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders in a tight race in Nevada.

The Trump victory claimed a major scalp when former Florida Governor Jeb Bush dropped out of the race.

He finished a distant fourth, days after his brother, former President George W Bush, made a rare political appearance to boost his flagging campaign.

Mrs Clinton narrowly beat Mr Sanders, who had beaten her convincingly in New Hampshire in their last contest.

The battle between them has grown increasingly close in recent weeks, with the former secretary of state expected to win Nevada in double digits just weeks ago.

But the Vermont senator, who has successfully galvanised young voters with his calls for free university education, appears to have performed better than expected among Hispanics in Nevada.

According to NBC exit polls, Mr Sanders won among Hispanics with 53% of the vote but lost among black voters earning just 22% of their vote.

“Winning is beautiful”, says Trump. So why are the Republicans such ugly people?

I don’t know a great deal about Trump, apart from the fact that he’s a very rich businessman, but I find it difficult to imagine him as the next president when he seems to have the habit of fairy regularly making what a lot of people deem as outrageous statements. I don’t know what his policies would be, and if he wins, he wins, but at the moment, I just can’t see him getting there.
