Huge housing benefit cut buried in the small print of Osborne’s budget | SPeye Joe (Welfarewrites)

Last Updated: March 16, 2016By

Remember what This Writer was saying about the devil being in the details of the Budget, and it being for us to dig them out and question them?

Here’s Joe Halewood, doing just that:

Within 5 minutes of downloading the budget documents I have found that the amount of Housing Benefit that will be cut in social housing with the LHA maxima policy has increased by 121% [more] in today’s budget than Osborne stated in his Autumn Statement on 25 November 2015!

The total estimated HB cut this parliament is £1 billion cut to social housing, supported housing and sheltered housing!

Here are the figures from the Autumn Statement of 25 November 2015:

And here are today’s figures:

  • The HB cut in 2018/19 increases from £120m to £265m – a 121% increase
  • The HB cut in 2019/20 increases from £170m to £335m – a 97% increase
  • The HB cut in 2020/21 increases from £225m to £390m – a 73% increase

In total for these three financial years the amount of housing benefit cut under the LHA maxima policy increases from £515 million to £990 million itself an increase of 92%!

slimeball Osborne is true to form.As trustworthy as ever!!!! I dont believe he has the capability to be straight and honest.
why are some of the budget dates april 2017? Is this so these can be brought forward when he pretends the economy has improved as part of his leadership bid?

Trust this poison pill to be well buried as would make a nonsense of his statement that he had the poorest on his radar screen to subsidise his corporate mates and the wealthy. Was not enough to bail out his reckless banking mates using the regular tax payers money he wants to drain the last dregs out of the downtrodden plebs. Would be good if the media was more balanced in bringing out these very important pieces of poison that effect far more of the population than corporate anbd high earners benefits. I really hope Mr. Bean and his storm troopers put the same amount of energy in chasing the big tax scammers as they do punishinhe the poor and vulnerable…….

he is penalising the poor to avoid chasing tax avoiders. he knows the tory days are numbered and wants to show tax avoider corporations that he can be hired as a paid consultant.

You need affordable housing for people who live on low income, ie cleaners bus drives, hospital ,nursing home, shop workers . Does that now mean as a private hospital nurse on less than NHS staff, I will have to move out of my flat in Bath, because I won’t be able to afford the increased rent?
