Why are people surprised that Iain Duncan Smith supported the Omnishambles II Budget?

Iain Duncan Smith in Parliament.

Media sources like the Daily Mirror (quoted below) seem very upset that Iain Duncan Smith meekly voted through the worst Budget in years, despite having quit as Work and Pensions secretary because of it.

Way to miss the point, guys!

The Gentleman Ranker told us all he quit because of a plan to restrict eligibility for the Personal Independence Payment (PIP) disability benefit. That plan has now been scrapped, so his objection has been removed.

Never mind the fact that there’s now a multi-billion pound black hole in the middle of it so the Budget won’t balance!

Of course, some of us think the resignation had little to do with the Budget and more to do with undermining David Cameron and especially George Osborne.

Mission accomplished.

Iain Duncan Smith voted in favour of George Osborne’s Budget tonight, despite quitting over it just four days ago.

The former Work and Pensions Secretary resigned from his position on Friday night, saying proposed cuts to disability benefits were the final straw.

The Budget originally included £4.4billion in cuts to Personal Independence Payments (PIP), which would used to pay cuts to the 40p rate of tax and corporation tax.

The Chancellor was forced to scrap the cuts in the face of a backbench revolt by Tory MPs.

Duncan Smith is basically a thoroughly dishonest and corrupt individual. Personally I would never take what he says as true fact and I dare say the real reason for his nasty, but welcome, tantrum will in due course become clear.

There is a lot more to this than we know for now, let us wait and see if the reports on UC are actually revealed within twenty days from the Judges order.

It should then hit the fan, let’s hope the truth is revealed for everyone concerned.

Osborne crafted the budget to benefit all members of parliament – ensuring it would be passed, why wouldn’t they vote for it.
