Jeremy Corbyn makes Labour case for staying in EU; reporters bitch about it

Commentators – including Norman Smith at the BBC, who should know better – are already saying Jeremy Corbyn’s support for EU membership is “tepid”. But they are missing the point.

Mr Corbyn is following Labour Party policy, as designed – and supported – by the majority of the membership. If only the Blairite right-wing mewlers who have nipped at his heels since last September would follow his example!

Meanwhile, David Cameron had to get in a soundbite about Corbyn supporting the UK’s membership of “a reformed European Union”, which is arse-about-face.

Nobody has reformed the EU, least of all David Cameron. He has changed the conditions under which the UK will remain in the EU – if it remains – but has influenced nothing else at all. On the world stage he is a bystander, at best.

Jeremy Corbyn has urged Labour supporters to vote to remain in the EU despite its “shortcomings” in his first major speech of the campaign.

The Labour leader cited workers rights, environmental standards and consumer safeguards as benefits of membership.

He stood by his past criticism of the EU but argued Britain must remain in to fight for social reform.

And he said he did not think free movement rules had led to “too many people” coming to the UK.

Labour Leave supporters said he was not reflecting the views of many Labour voters – despite his claim that the “overwhelming” majority of the party and the big trade unions backed membership.

He’s entitled to his option, even if the right wing press don’t like it, it’s his thoughts he’s sharing and because they’re not theirs, they’re once again pissing and moaning about Corbyn!

It’s not difficult to be tepid if, in fact, that’s what Corbyn is. As a mere citizen voter I look at the remain campaign with the likes of Cameron and Osborne fronting it, then look at the leave campaign with Johnson and Gove to the forefront I wonder why such evil so and sos can actually be allowed any influence at all.

I’ll probably vote remain because I feel European, but also to keep Cameron in office as a lame duck PM. If Cameron goes, I fear that Johnson would be an even bigger nightmare.

I joined the Labour party & then left after I was told they would be campaigning to stay in the EU which isn’t democratic & it’s Parliament can’t be held to account by UK citizens. Are the public being conned again just like they were before the general election in 2015 when all the main parties agreed that austerity would continue after the election regardless of who got elected which didn’t give the public a choice about whether they wanted to continue with Osborne’s failed austerity policy or not. Austerity actually leads to more privatization & increased costs to the tax payers for the same services but without any personal accountability. I don’t think it’s reasonable or acceptable to expect the public to endure another 4 years of the Tories & their inhumane policies.

Its a simple choice if you think about human rights in tribunals and other UK court forums.
currently human rights determined in UK court/ judicial systems. If brexit succeeds then a potential delay of court case final verdict. strasbourg court in EU needs to make decision as to whether Human rights legislation should have been applied or not.
Delay could be up to 8 years.
Think of the unfairness of tribunal hearings , criminal and civil courts when the plaintiffs have to pay costs to initiate the case
