Referendum: Remain has 18-point lead over Brexit – but voters don’t believe either side’s fearmongering

Good news from the Daily Mail – that makes a pleasant change, doesn’t it?

The Mail is reporting findings from an Ipsos MORI poll that shows 55 per cent of voters want to stay in the European Union, despite the ever-more desperate claims of Brexit campaigners like Boris Johnson and Michael Gove.

The poll has also shown that voters have seen through David Cameron’s silly claims about Brexit increasing the possibility of war on the continent and don’t believe them either.

This Writer would suggest that the findings indicate that voters are taking a pragmatic approach. They’re not interested in the scaremongering predictions – often with no basis in reality – that have been dubbed ‘Project Fear’ by detractors on both sides.

They want facts.

It is deeply unfortunate for the Conservative Party that the high-profile examples of evidenceless scaremongering have been perpetrated by its high-profile members.

What does that say about the Tories?

The campaign to keep Britain in the EU raced into an 18-point lead today, according to a new poll.

It is the biggest lead recorded in the EU referendum campaign so far, but the same poll found that the public don’t believe David Cameron’s claims that a Brexit vote in June’s EU referendum would bring war and genocide back to Europe.

A majority of 58 per cent of voters believe leaving the EU would make ‘no difference’ to peace and security on the continent, according to an Ipsos MORI poll carried out over the weekend.

The Daily Mail? Part of me is suspicious. Say, Brexit is ahead by a small amount, one old tactic is to say it’s losing in order to galvanise the voters….or have I lived too long in this cynical polity?

If I were to believe all the fear hype surrounding the referendum. I might decide to use a pin to decide my IN or OUT x

It seems stupid and ignorant to be swayed by what the majority want, especially in this particular case, as surely people vote according to what they personally feel is best for themselves and the country Personally, I am voting for “IN” because I have always had very good relations with my friends and, in the past, neighbours in both France and Spain and was always treated with friendly respect; and never made to feel like a foreigner!

My main reason, however, is because I feel that we need to be part of and to co-operate with the rest of Europe in this modern age, and most of all because I do not trust this Conservative government to govern if we become isolated, but to become even more of a dictatorship if we were to lose the support and protection of the European Court of Human Rights which the ordinary decent people of Great Britain need.

We are not been giving the whole story about if it’s best to stay or go and what would happen if we left, all smoke and mirrors from both sides!

Regardless of whether Hameron’s “peace in our time” rhetoric is believable, there is no doubt that leaving the EU would leave the Tories much less restrained in their genocidal policies against the disabled. So on that narrow point, he is right, although not in the way he’d like to be!
