Let’s all pay tribute to this activist, campaigner and friend of Vox Political

Michelle Bridge, who has died aged 43.

Some of you may be aware that Michelle Bridge was a Vox Political reader and occasionally corresponded with This Writer.

I have an invitation from her, to join a Google+ group called We Love British Music, awaiting approval at the moment.

So this has come as something of a shock.

There is an appeal to help pay for funeral costs, and I would urge readers to consider helping out. If we all gave £1, we would have paid for it many times over.

Vox Political offers condolences to Michelle’s family and friends.

Tributes have been paid to a welfare rights campaigner from Runcorn who has died suddenly at the age of 43.

Michelle Bridge passed away on the afternoon of Monday, May 16, leaving a 25-year-old son.

Her nephew Louis Bridge said Michelle was an ‘amazing person who always put everyone else before herself’ and who would run through paperwork for residents with benefits issues in her home.

In 2013 she helped to organise protests against the ‘bedroom tax’ at Runcorn Town Hall and in Widnes under the banner of the ‘Stand Up In Halton’ campaign.

An appeal has been launched to raise cash toward her funeral costs with a target of £1,500, and her family has requested donations instead of flowers.

Donate to the funeral here.

i am a carer for my bi polar friend. her sister jumped in front of a train two weeks ago, i am her only support i suffer with copd and depression having attempted suicide in my past on at least 5 occasions. i wonder why i ever followed your blog. your so picie who you talk to. leicester is the pits for mental health look into it 67 people died on wards this year. that dont take into account the people who went off ward and killed themselves. i have no facebook account i have no social media in any way. even being out there witih people makes me ill. yet here in leicester we are treated like sh*t. example council tax. i have to pay it in full despite my mental health problems whilst still being a carer

I’m certainly not picky about talking to anybody!
Using the example to hand, I had no idea who Michelle was until she wrote in and said hello.
Also, with the greatest respect, this article is about her – not about you or me.

I met Michelle when she was on the checkout at Iceland in Runcorn Shopping Centre. She was asking me about my operation when I fitted with my implanted cardioverter-defibrillator, she also asked me to join her FB page: The Real Stand-Up in Halton. I was gobsmacked when I learned the tragic news – Michelle lived only a few hundred yards from me. I’m pleased that a friend has taken over her page and renamed it “Michelle’s The Real Stand Up in Halton”. And yes, I’ve just donated.

the funeral will cost a fair bit more than £1,500, i’m sure ppl will rally around to get the amount needed ….. and i hope she can firmly hang the blame on the Govt. as a parting gesture … RIP Michelle, thank you for your activism xx

Why is it that the people who appear to care the most are the ones most likely to suffer the most, especially in silence, as it appears the case is here? I have donated what little I can to help her family, just to say thank you to her for helping people when they needed it.

Another voice in the wilderness silenced, that is just typical of the way the world is now, someone who cared, someone who gave a damn, no longer with us, gone, and yet all the little demons who cause all our suffering, all our pain, still running amok, where is the justice! Michelle was a lovely woman, my sincerest condolences to her family, thank you for all that you did Michelle, may you rest in peace.
