Preferred new Ofsted chief has never taught – but has helped run academy chain

Ms Spielman founded an academy chain, according to the BBC.

The new chief inspector at Ofsted has never been a teacher, but has been heavily involved with a chain of academy schools. I fear for the future of education in the UK.

Most chilling is Thicky Nicky Morgan’s endorsement: “I know that she is the right person to deliver the Education White Paper’s commitment to continue to improve the quality and consistency of Ofsted’s inspections, ensuring that it plays a central role in realising our vision of educational excellence everywhere.”

Tories have been dumbing down British education ever since they brought in GCSEs in the 1980s and Thicky Nicky’s changes can only accelerate this, intentionally widening the quality gap between publicly- and privately-funded teaching.

Don’t take my word for it, though. Kevin Courtney, acting general secretary of the National Union of Teachers, said: “To have as the new chief inspector of Ofsted a person who has no teaching experience and who is heavily implicated in the academy programme, certainly does call into question both their suitability and impartiality for the job. “

The Association of Teachers and Lecturers highlighted that Ms Spielman “has never taught, has never led a school or a major public institution, and as chair of Ofqual she has presided over qualification chaos in secondary schools”.

The only question we need to ask about this “preferred candidate” is: How can the public prevent this appointment?

Amanda Spielman has been chosen as the next chief inspector of Ofsted by Education Secretary Nicky Morgan.

Ms Spielman, currently chair of exams regulator Ofqual, has been chosen for her experience in the education sector although she has never been a teacher.

She has helped oversee the reform of GCSEs and A-levels and the founding and expansion of successful academy chain, Ark, during her time at Ofqual.

I suspect her main commitment will be to ensure that the education of our young people makes just a few people very very rich.

Just whats needed to address the chaos in our schools, yet another bloody accountant who would probably be unemployed otherwise.

There may be another political point to this appointment. If future generations are illiterate, they will be unable to comment on future gov policy. Who knows, it may even be people will be required to sign their name on ballots, rather than mark an X. Cheaper zero hours foreign workers will swell the professions while expensive home grown labour languishes in a welfare-less economy.

What is that god awful smell coming from this dispicable stupid politically biased thinking. And this before anyone has looked really deeply into the full background and relationship this prospective candidate has with any one within the Cons or with interested commercial parties. This reflects the true Cons political agenda and promotes the nazi state educational thinking….another mad woman to join that useless Hunt in their bid for total privatisation of everything.

Clearly unfit, unqualified, and unsuitable, her appointment is therefore unjustifiable, even by the unprincipled, unfit, unqualified, unsuitable, and unintelligent undertaker of the great education system we used to have, who would otherwise be unemployable.

Once again, a total no-brainer. Prior to retirement from teaching I mentored post-grad student teachers from two university education departments in an East Midlands city. Very few of these young people were made of the ‘right stuff’. That is, teachers aren’t made, they’re born that way. The very short PGCE year with its on-site apology for full professional training was hopelessly inadequate – like chucking complete non-swimmers into the deep end and expecting them to pick up the skills of a competent swimmer in sixty seconds. Needless to say, the majority drown. I may be a little unfair here – there were one of two with some promise in the classroom and given more time some of the others may have been worth their monthly pay. It’s all very well having bright subject graduates in the classroom but if they can’t manage the behaviour of their charges and develop clever ways of imparting knowledge, skills and understanding you might as well employ the caretaker to take over. Wait a minute though, that’s exactly what happened in my last place of employment! We also had other unqualified teachers in our midst and the results were of course predictable. Teaching desperately needs a return to the four-year B.Ed. Teacher Training College ethos. Now then, about this tyro taking over Ofsted…
