The threat of the Brexiters who may become a government without a manifesto

‘Leave’ campaigners are relying on the gullibility of the UK’s public to propel them into power – but they have no idea how they will achieve the promises they have made.
And, in This writer’s opinion, they have no intention of keeping any of their promises in any case.
A victory for Brexiteers seems likely to see a change of government – with Boris [Johnson] taking the helm as prime minister, and other campaigners such as Michael Gove, Iain Duncan Smith and Priti Patel rewarded with senior positions.
A government-in-waiting is normally expected to set out a detailed manifesto. Leave campaigners have not done so – allowing them to promise all things to all people.
Such populism is a massive risk – of poor execution, disillusionment among voters when promises aren’t kept, and an economic turmoil which the relatively inexperienced crew at Downing Street would be at a loss to handle.
Their numbers don’t add up. The idea that we’d reclaim £350 million a week from Brussels after we leave is a fiction, described by the Institute for Fiscal Studies as “clearly absurd”. The independent body also estimates the economic shock of Brexit would lead to a fiscal shortfall of between £20 billion and £40 billion in 2020, which would imply tax rises, spending cuts or a rising deficit.

As usual Mike you have hit the nail on the head! Your comments echo my most serious worries for the future of the people of Britain. I find that the majority of Twitter users are on the same wave-length but I worry about the millions of those who don’t even have a computer and or read only the propaganda of the press or just don’t take an interest; until it is too late! Sadly it was the very people Ed Miliband was trying to help and who didn’t wake up in time to vote who lost us the last election. I jut hope that with all the effort the Party is putting in with Jeremy Corbyn’s sensible and decent approach to the EU that at least the younger members of our society will make up for last time.
this is a government without a manifesto anyway, or if they have one it keeps changing to a when it suits us manifesto and is still keeping up the tory momentum of targeting vunerable adults, wait till the next major election the blue world is going down
I just can’t imagine why any working class people would even consider voting for anything which has the support of Duncan-Smith, Johnson and Gove. It defies credibility.
They wave a Union Flag about, but one of the consequences of Britain leaving the EU would very likely be the break of the UK itself, thereby making the Union Flag redundant.
I’ve maintained all the way through this that people should vote according to what the evidence tells them is the best way forward, not according to who supports which side. I’m for ‘Remain’, which has the support of David Cameron and George Osborne, but I don’t like those people (as you’ve probably noticed)!
