Make a note in your diaries, everybody.

The man accused of murdering the MP Jo Cox is scheduled to go on trial in November in a case that will be dealt with as a terrorist trial, a judge said on Thursday.

Thomas Mair, 52, from Birstall, West Yorkshire, appeared at the Old Bailey via video-link from Belmarsh prison in south-east London. He said: “Yes I am,” when asked to confirm his name, and made notes during the 15-minute hearing.

Mr Justice Saunders said it would be treated as a terrorist trial for case-management purposes. A trial date was set for 14 November.

Another hearing will take place on 19 September at the Old Bailey, with a plea hearing pencilled in on 4 October. The trial will be heard before a high court judge and is likely to be at the Old Bailey.

Cox, the MP for Batley and Spen, was killed last Thursday outside Birstall public library.

The 41-year-old mother of two was declared dead at 1.48pm after being shot three times and stabbed repeatedly.

Mair is charged with murder, grievous bodily harm, possession of a firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence, and possession of an offensive weapon.

At a magistrates court hearing last week he had given his name as “Death to traitors, freedom for Britain”.

I hope there are no attempts to have this man classified as mentally unfit to stand trial. The letters published on this blog recently show that he is thoroughly steeped in obnoxious right-wing racist ideology and definitely responsible for his actions.
