Labour plotters seek legal advice over plan to steal the party’s name

It would be theft, no doubt about it – never mind whatever any lawyer might say.

Suppose the “empty suits” in the Labour rebellion had their way and split from Corbyn and the Labour Party, but tried to use the name ‘Labour’ to dupe traditional Labour supporters into voting for them at elections.

It would be fraud on a national scale. They would be claiming to represent Labour values, with no intention of doing anything of the sort.

Their values are watered-down Tory values; their policies are watered-down Tory policies.

They can’t succeed because there is already a Tory party.

Why don’t they just cross the floor of the House of Commons and let Labour – true Labour – field proper Labour candidates at the next election?

Is it because, without the Labour name, they know they will lose?

Labour rebels keen to oust Jeremy Corbyn are investigating whether they would have a legal case for using the party’s name if they formed a breakaway group in parliament, and have set up a website to try to gain support of “moderate” members.

“It comes down to what would be the legalities around retaining the name ‘the Labour party’,” one MP told the Guardian, in the latest evidence that Corbyn’s detractors are ready to use every weapon in their armoury in the escalating war in the party.

What about The Democratic Labour Party as a name? There is already the SDLP, they could be the DLP.

What, democratic in the ironic sense, like all those countries that put ‘Democratic’ in their names when they never hold elections and the leaders couldn’t care less what the population wants?

Dick Tavern used DLP when he had 5 minutes of fame in Lincoln…..

Because, unlike Jeremy Corbyn, their services are available to the highest bidder, and with the Chilcott report due out, we all have a pretty good idea of the 3 or 4 or 5 countries and oligarchs that may be

What is wrong with them? Have they no shame? Democratically elected and now the subject of manic plotting.

The conspirators are clutching at straws. They know their days are numbered. Even if they succeeded in adopting the name of Labour, supporters would desert them in droves, they would also have little financial support, never mind credibility. The dirty tricks will no longer fool the members who have digested the lies of these politicians for years, they are no longer the fools they hope for.

I’m absolutely disgusted how Corbyn’s back benches have done to cause this pathetic coup? no doubt it’s to do with his popularity from the public that’s really annoyed the rest of the Labour camp? but who else would be suited for the new Labour leadership i don’t really see anyone else who could take on JC role at this time?

Mike, I’ve being trying to email my MP Thangam Debbonaire on the email address I usually use ([email protected]), but they are all bouncing. Needless to state I’m stating how unhappy I am about her resignation and for supporting the vote of no confidence, it has never bounced before, perhaps it’s a coincidence?. Anyway I’ve got the email to her by using her parliamentary email address. Also the links to make comments on her website are not working (for me anyway).

At a time when the country has been sold down the river by selfish and inept Tories, all certain Labour MPs can do is split the party. It makes one want to weep.

I am afraid the Labour is hurtling to oblivion. Corbyn is “leading” the party over a cliff.

Are you absolutely sure that this is about Corbyn? I have a feeling the anti-Corbyn Labour MPs who are refusing to represent their constituents may have something to do with it?

They could use ‘New Labour’ I suppose, it would link them firmly with Blair and all the electorate will know what to expect – Back stabbing b’stards with no interest in democracy!
But then Hey, they’re politicians what else would you expect from them given the last 50 years of lies, theft and corruption! ?

I think the main reason the right wing suits want the name, is to benefit from the vast sums of money generated through union contributions. Those same members a certain right winger considers less worthy than the rich middle class and businesses. I currently belong to the Labour Party and if they oust JC and take the name I will cancel my monthly donations as well. They are not going to get their hands on my money.

I think the unions would do the same.
