Smith-supporting female MPs get exactly what they wanted as Corbyn reprimands him for abusive language

Owen Smith’s slip-of-the-brain would have been well deserving of a famous Jeremy Corbyn ‘side-eye’, if it had occurred in Parliament.

This is ironic, isn’t it?

Days after more than 40 female Labour MPs – who support Owen Smith – demanded action from Jeremy Corbyn about “an extremely worrying trend of escalating abuse and hostility towards MPs” in which women were disproportionately targeted, Mr Corbyn has had to make his first such intervention – against Mr Smith.

Mr Smith has been forced to apologise after saying he wanted to “smash” Theresa May “back on her heels”, during a major speech to outline his policy ideas.

Arguing that Labour should be going after the prime minister’s policies harder, he had said: “It pained me that we didn’t have the strength and the power and the vitality [he was wrong; Jeremy Corbyn’s response was robust] to smash her back on her heels. These are our values, these are our people, this is our language that they are seeking to steal.”

Here’s Mr Corbyn’s response:

A spokesman for the campaign of the Labour leader, Jeremy Corbyn said: “We need to be careful of the language we use during this contest as many members, including many female Labour MPs, have said they feel intimidated by aggressive language.”

Jeremy Corbyn demonstrates once again, ever so gently, why he is a leader and Smith is not.

Corbyn is the leader principally because he offered something different in a election full of sameness. That does not actually tell us anything helpful.

    Mountains and molehills much.
You cannot stand up and adopt the role of Prime Minister, then simper like a girlie girl in the face of harsh language, and it is rather more pathetic to do so on her behalf.

Altogether now: “I’m the Leader, I’m the Leader, I’m the Leader of the Pack I am”

If Corbyn had said anything that his opponent has, he would have been dragged through the sewer, it appears Owen can make as many offensive and prejudiced comments as he can unquestioned or unchallenged, the media is mostly silent whereas they have to cut and mix up Corbyn’s comments to mean exactly what they don’t actually mean, meaning the real culprits get away with it. Why is no-one commenting on these nasty, sexist slurs made by Owen, no-one is saying anything, at all. It’s moreorless been swept under the carpet, these people that cry wolf and make false allegations, make no mistake, do not care about real sexist and other such incidents. They accused Corbyn of it during the train carriage row when he only wanted safety for women and are ignoring this incident of discrimination.

Wood: “Have you ever done Question Time, Owen?”

Smith: “Nope, they keep putting you on instead.”

Wood: “I think with party balance there’d be other people they’d be putting on instead of you, wouldn’t they, rather than me?”

Smith: “I think it helps. I think your gender helps as well.”

    Wood: “Yeah.”

“I’m not angry, Owen. I’m just disappointed.” The Headmaster admonishing unruly students is the image that keeps coming to mind whenever Corbyn deals with either the Tories or his own rebels.

Corbyn has gone down in my estimation; this is at the level of those who tried to smear him as being sexist and anti-Semitic. At least his response wasn’s silly as his opponents’ responses would have been if the positions had been reversed.

Why has he gone down in your estimation?
He did exactly the right thing.

It seems Smith has these “brain slips” whenever he is, by his own words “off script”. So there we have it, once he’s saying what he really thinks instead of carefully scripted utterances, we see the real man. I don’t mean that in a good way either. What we see is the Owen Smith of unreconstructed Blairite Progress misogynist middle class, middle aged, mediocre male.
