Anti-immigrant sentiment is spreading across Europe like a disease

This is despicable, and possibly racist.

And Germany – a nation that is particularly sensitive when it comes to racial discrimination, for obvious historical reasons – should contemplate the implications with shame.

AfD leader Frauke Petry said “What should we make of the campaign ‘Germany is colourful’? A compost heap is colourful, too.”

But compost is also an aid to creation; it nurtures new growth and makes it strong.

What kind of Germany would Frauke Petry have? Monochrome, drab… sterile?

As a UK citizen, it concerns me that this attitude was being expressed at the same time as similar anti-immigrant sentiments were being flaunted at the Conservative Party Conference..

Is there some kind of co-ordinated plot against immigration taking place here?

Or did the bigots just randomly decide to come out at the same time?

Let’s just have a visual reality check, to remind ourselves of the good work that immigrants do, here in the UK:

Politicians across Germany’s political spectrum have condemned the leader of the anti-immigration Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) party after she was reported to have compared societies including migrants to compost heaps.

Frauke Petry, whose party has made big regional gains this year and is expected to win federal parliamentary seats in 2017, made the comments in a speech in Stuttgart on Monday, according to Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ).

Pouring scorn on the idea that migrants made societies more diverse, she said: “What should we make of the campaign ‘Germany is colourful’? A compost heap is colourful, too,” according to the report.

No one at Petry’s office was available to comment on the quotes or confirm she said them.

Simply printing 4 pictures of immigrants that add to society doesn’t give a balanced view, there have been many reports of german women being sexually abused by migrants because they are exposed and not covered up as the migrants believe they should be, or pictures of migrants defecating in public which seems to be a consistent problem. When the fabric of society is being threatened it is not surprising that people get scared and blame all of the people coming in, as they don’t comply with the standards of the receiving nation.

Is that because the receiving nation arbitrarily changes its standards so they can’t comply, though?
Anyway, all the people coming in might not meet those standards, but some will, and the fabric of society isn’t being threatened by migrants; if it’s being threatened at all, it’s being threatened by racists in political parties.
I haven’t heard of migrants defecating in public. As for sexual abuse of women, the shameful fact is that we have any of that here at all, never mind migrants coming in and adding to it. I’m willing to bet the percentage of people carrying out these assaults is roughly the same in both groups.

And equating the actions of a few as even remotely representative of the majority is how Hitler won over the masses, whereby innate bigotry replaced fair and equal balanced thinking and objectivity.

From what I gather the Alternative Fur Deutschland are a pretty loathsome bunch. They’ve taken off thanks to the rise of anti-Islam feeling in Germany. The claim that immigrants are defecating in public seems to me to come from a video on YouTube, which supposedly shows Middle Easterners masturbating in a swimming pool, and evacuating their bowels in the children’s pool. Even if this disgraceful behaviour is genuine, it doesn’t mean that all immigrants are like it.

As for Frauke Petry’s comment comparing ‘Germany is colourful’ to a dunghill, that’s another metaphor that’s almost straight out of the old Nazi playbook. The NSDAP when they were running around the Weimar Republic used to look at the German flag and describe it as ‘Red, Black, Mustard!’ – the ‘mustard’ referred to the yellow stripe. It was also German slang at the time for excrement.

In addition to being anti-immigrant, the party also wants to bring back national service. So they’re pretty much what you hear from extreme right-wing Tories over here.
