Just what is going on in UKIP?

We’ve all heard of the rough and tumble of politics, but this report is disturbing.

Mr Woolfe’s condition has been described on Twitter as “life-threatening” by the other leadership candidate, Raheem Kassam.

An altercation is defined as a noisy argument or disagreement, so what actually happened?

ADDITIONAL: Neil Hamilton, UKIP’s leader in the Welsh Assembly, reckons Mr Woolfe “picked a fight” and “came off worse”. He says he heard that Mr Woolfe was knocked over, hit his head on a window, and was taken to hospital with “bleeding on the brain”.

2.56pm: Mr Woolfe has regained consciousness and seems to be recovering. A CT scan has revealed no blood clot on the brain.

According to The Guardian, Mike Hookem is the MEP involved in what’s now being called a fight with Mr Woolfe, after he made comments about Mr Woolfe “defecting” to the Conservatives. It seems Mr Woolfe had the upper hand, walked away from the fight and was able to vote half an hour later. But he left the vote partway through and collapsed.

UKIP leadership hopeful Steven Woolfe was taken to hospital following an altercation at a meeting of party MEPs, interim leader Nigel Farage has said.

In a statement he said Mr Woolfe had “subsequently collapsed” and his “condition is serious”.

Mr Woolfe, MEP for the North West, was taken to hospital in Strasbourg for tests.

Mr Woolfe announced on Wednesday he will stand for the party’s leadership after Diane James stepped down.

In his statement, Mr Farage said: “I deeply regret that following an altercation that took place at a meeting of UKIP MEPs this morning that Steven Woolfe subsequently collapsed and was taken to hospital. His condition is serious.”
