And how many of the PLP actually support the cap – and not just the odious Frank? This article from a year ago, when Smith was the Shadow DWP minister…..

The Tories have taken this country back some 50+ years.
What a way for children to start out in life, this takes me back to my childhood in Newcastle, poverty is back in vogue apparently.

It was clear from their manifesto (“cap overall welfare spending, lower the amount of benefits that any household can receive to £23,000 and continue to roll out Universal Credit, to make work pay”) they were economically illiterate. Surely this means they’ve no mandate for what they’re doing and it’s illegal? If it is illegal, what are our rights?

Considering the evolution of welfare dismantling, what is going to be the cost of rectification once this party are thrown out. It seems it’s a bit like the WW2 blitz, it can take decades to repair the damage.
