Homes for a few people, for a while? Maybe.

But that’s the equivalent of putting a sticking-plaster over a broken leg.

Any doctor will tell you the answer is to treat the cause, not the symptom.

Homeless protestors are to quit their self-styled tent town in the centre of Scunthorpe after claiming their week-long vigil had been a total success.

Their spokesman Terry Marshall said: “We have proved our point. We shall be packing up and donating the tents and other gifts from the pubic to homeless protesters in Sheffield and Leeds.”

Four of the camp’s residents visited North Lincolnshire Council yesterday (Thursday, December 8), with three being found accommodation and the fourth not accepting an offer of accommodation.

Mr Marshall said three more of the residents went for interviews with the council today.

He said: “I would like to place on record my thanks to the council for their work in housing the homeless. Their job is not as straight forward as many people think.

“Hangers-on coming to the camp have caused one or two problems but generally it has been a peaceful protest and I’d like to thank the public of Scunthorpe for their support.”
