Corbyn’s care proposal puts Theresa May between a rock and a hard place

What can Theresa May do? Either way, her reputation is ruined.

If she agrees to talks with Mr Corbyn, let alone action along the lines he proposes, she will be admitting that she was lying at Prime Minister’s Questions on November 23 and December 14, when he raised the social care crisis in Parliament.

But what if she doesn’t agree, and somebody dies? Her puppies in the right-wing press can only protect her to a certain degree, and she has made such a huge issue of having improved provision for those who need social care that any adverse news could be devastating.

And somebody will die, if she doesn’t agree.

One would hope that she would make the logical choice – climb down, accept the inevitable, and do whatever is possible to avert any danger to the elderly.

Let’s not forget: These are people who have worked all their lives on the understanding that their needs will be met in old age or infirmity – some of them even fought in wars for it.

My fear is that she will jump in the opposite direction.

She is, after all, a vindictive Tory – and Tories love to make the poor suffer.

The Labour leader, Jeremy Corbyn, has asked to meet Theresa May to discuss emergency funding for Britain’s ailing social care system, which would be the first such cross-party meeting since the new prime minister entered Downing Street.

Corbyn has written to the prime minister seeking urgent talks on how the government might avert the deepening crisis in social care this Christmas. His letter to May calls for “emergency top-up funding” to protect elderly and vulnerable people.

“After £4.6bn of cuts to social care budgets since 2010, more than a million elderly people are not getting the care they need,” his letter says. “Social care is in a deepening crisis which threatens the wellbeing, dignity and lives of hundreds of thousands of older people.”

Corbyn proposed an urgent meeting “at the highest level” to discuss emergency support for social care, to tide services over until April, and longer-term solutions to the funding and restructuring of care provision.

“There is an opportunity to avert a crisis this winter,” he says. “Will your government agree to take it?”

The conservative party has a long history of abuse against those who can least defend themselves against it. Even without the Lords. Thy lie. The Lords are not allowed to defend themselves.what an amazing job amur rudd has done. If no one will do there job within the Lords I hold little for the rest of us. Speaking as a guy who spent loads of time in Leicester on careers committee and the council.
It’s all about money. Here in Leicester we have a mayor, at the last count we have 10 deput mayors. Why do we even need soulsbery in the first place. This scum bucket carear bull merchant

Well the first thing JC will need for this meeting is a translator so that Mother T, and her nice but dim henries, can actually understand exactly what is happening in their backyard. Not much of this stuff touches their way of life so I can understand why they have not got a clue……other than offerring cake….but definitely no money….that taxayer payer cash is not for plebs that’s for their mates tax breaks…far more important.
