Austerity HAS worked for George Osborne – he was 2016’s highest-earning MP

George Osborne has seen his earnings soar since being sacked as Chancellor by Theresa May [Image: PA].

This is the man who said, “We’re all in it together”. If that’s true, where’s my £700,000?

I think it’s possible to bury that statement as a lie – one of many made while Mr Osborne was Chancellor, and possibly to be added to any he is making in his speaking engagements. It’s hard to tell as This Writer is unlikely to be invited to any JP Morgan events.

Even dyed-in-the-wool Tories must realise by now that nothing George Osborne did as a member of a Conservative Government had anything at all to do with the well-being of anybody in the UK other than George Osborne.

He was setting himself up for a lucrative future career and by his own measure he has succeeded.

The worst part of it is, there seems to be nothing to be done about it by those of us who were harmed by his meddling in public affairs.

We cannot even boycott the companies concerned because most of us don’t have anything to do with them.

Former Chancellor George Osborne was the highest earning MP of 2016, raking in £628,000 on top of his MP’s salary of £74,962 – chiefly from lucrative public speaking engagements – latest figures have revealed.

Mr Osborne was sacked as Chancellor by Theresa May in July – but is one of 14 MPs who earned more than the Prime Minister in the last year, according to the latest Register of Members’ Interests.

After losing his job, Mr Osborne was signed by the same US agency as Tony Blair, the Washington Speaker Bureau, and embarked on a round of lucrative engagements on both sides of the Atlantic.

His most profitable speeches were two for investment bank JP Morgan, for which he received £81,174 and £60,578, a speech for Palmex Derivatives (£80,240), and another for the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (£69,992).

Earnings are a lamentable way to measure the achievements of an MP.

shame he did not concentrate on his job when he was supposed to be working, wonder what topics he talks about that gullible people pay silly amounts to listen to him. i could imagine some of the subjects are targeting the most vunerable to protect the rich, bankers will like that subject there good at that, offshore accounts and panama, how to fool the uk government into google eyed deals, then there the comedy one, how to be a excellent chancellor, make loads of mistakes and still keep your job and lastly thanks for the 80k, you actually believed this load of old twaddle!!!
