Hospitals warn over patient numbers – while nursing officer wants bed numbers cut. Contradiction?

Last Updated: January 6, 2017By

Clive Peedell of the National Health Action Party, sharing this on Twitter, remarked, “This is why Chief Nursing Officer should resign with immediate effect. She wants more acute beds cut.”

If this is true, then I agree that Ms Cummings should indeed resign or be removed from her post as her attitude is harmful to healthcare in England.

Unfortunately, Mr Peedell does not mention how we can make our feelings known to those with the authority to remove this person.

Do any Vox Political readers know the correct procedure?

A third of hospital trusts in England issued alerts warning they needed urgent action to cope with the pressure of patient numbers last month.

In the most serious cases – seven of the 50 trusts that issued alerts – the hospitals declared they were unable to give patients comprehensive care.

BBC Radio 4’s Today programme has been told operations have been cancelled and patients left waiting on trolleys.

NHS England said tried-and-tested plans were managing the pressures.

Dr Taj Hassan, president of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine, said there was an “absolute and urgent need” to help emergency departments.

The way to do it would be to get her struck off by the NMC, unfortunately the NMC has shown itself to be totally biased when it comes to breaches of the code of conduct which as this puts patients/clients at risk is certainly the case, they will not discipline nurse managers unless one senior to them has made the complaint.

Would have liked some more background on her recommendation and her exact logic
for doing what appears to be an extreme measure……at first sight it appears to be the usual reaction to trouble at the NHS mill ie if the financial kack hits the fan stick your head where the sun does not shine ……. that little Hunt has a lot to answer for.
