This is what you get if you vote Conservative: Nothing

British workers will have barely seen a real pay rise since 2004 [Image: Getty Images].

Between 2000 and 2013, the total earnings of executives at FTSE 350 companies leapt up by no less than 232 per cent. That means that in 2013 they were earning 3.32 times as much as in 2000.

In less than three days, they took more money from their firms than you will earn in a year (unless you are very lucky indeed).

Your pay has stayed the same.

So, here at the beginning of 2017, we’re getting a really good sense of what our Conservative politicians have been working towards:

A United Kingdom whose assets have been sold off to foreign private or state-owned firms in which they and their rich friends hold shares;

Where company executive pay rises by 18 per cent per year (on average) but workers receive no pay rises at all.

And where all the services on which we rely are allowed to stagnate to the point of failure.

This is what you get if you vote Conservative: Nothing.

The real wages of UK workers are expected to be practically no higher in 2025 than they were in 2004, a study by Cambridge University academics has warned.

A study of the impact of Brexit on the British economy found that salaries would be “only very slightly above” their level in 2004 – when new countries in Eastern and Central Europe joined the European Union.

The economists said they expected over two decades of practically stagnant wages – the equivalent of almost no increase in incomes between the Second World War and England winning the 1966 football World Cup.

    Yet still working class people line up to vote for the Tory Party. It mystifies me.
