Hypocrite Hunt: Remember when he took his kids to A&E because he didn’t want to wait for a GP appointment?

Last Updated: January 9, 2017By

Here’s another line from the Tory playbook: Do as I say – not as I do.

Jeremy Hunt is working hard to convince us all not to visit Accident & Emergency departments at hospitals with anything but the most urgent medical problems.

But in 2014 he took his own children to A&E because he didn’t want to wait for a GP appointment.

Today, immediate GP appointments are still all-but-impossible to find, and the other options – walk-in centres – have mostly been closed by Mr Hunt.

So what are people supposed to do?

Oh, and now Mr Hunt has compounded his hypocrisy by claiming he will “release” GPs to work in A&E. This prompted the following retort from Dr David Wrigley of Keep Our NHS Public:

“Quite unbelievable. Hunt says he will ‘release GPs for A&E work’ -like we’re twiddling our thumbs & have our feet up. Get a grip!”

And this from Dr Ben White:

Add it all up and the NHS humanitarian crisis is going to get much, much worse before it gets better.

All because the Conservatives cannot bring themselves to say, “Sorry.”

How many more have to die before they admit they were wrong?

Hunt is a particularly nasty and dishonest hypocrite. It never ceases to amaze me at how Tory ministers shamelessly and ruthlessly exploit their children for political purposes. Cameron even did it with the dying son.

We do not have enough G.P.’s to do all the work that has been diverted in their direction by subsequent governments, this isn’t something that has only happened under Hunt. My own G.P. surgery has recently closed moving the entire patient group to another surgery, because of the retirement of 2 Doctors and them being unable to replace them in the practice. Stopping the target in a/e is the only positive thing Hunt has done, because whilst having a target to try to attain in itself is not a bad thing, the fines for not reaching it actually create a situation that makes it less likely to reach the target and increased fines.

It always struck me as weird that a public hospital not reaching its now impossible targets should be fined for something that is out of their control because the same Government that is fining them maybe deliberately caused the chaos/failure in the first place. Feels like they are actually fining themselves. Are hospitals actually fined for failure, making thei financialr situation even worse, or is the fine just added to their total accelerating indebtness and future inevitable privatisation.
