US medical costs mean UK pensioner may soon be homeless. The shape of things to come?

Last Updated: February 11, 2017By

David West may soon be locked out of his flat in Corsley, near Frome.

This is a taste of things to come, with 10 per cent of the English NHS already privatised.

We all know the long-term plan is to turn the health service in the UK into a fully-privatised system in which people by insurance in the hope that it will pay for the extremely expensive treatments they may need.

Already, here in Mid Wales, residents are starting to receive letters from firms promising they would only pay for the services they received (rather than the current system in which we all contribute to a communal pot). Apparently these letters are targeting particular postcodes, to ensure that mostly wealthy people receive them.

The poor can sicken and suffer, it seems.

Heaven help anyone who takes out insurance with the criminal US firm Unum, which has been convicted of crimes in its home country after refusing to pay out on legitimate insurance claims. This is a company that has been advising the Department for Work and Pensions for more than 20 years.

Without insurance, what can you do? I think people would act as David West has.

People have to live. Faced with life-endangering conditions and forced to pay for treatment, they would jeopardise their futures by using money intended for other things. In Mr West’s case, that means he didn’t pay the rent and took housing benefit cash that he didn’t legally deserve.

In an insurance-based, pay-as-you-go health system, that is how it will be, I fear. People will criminalise themselves, simply to survive.

Sickening.

An elderly pensioner is soon to be homeless and out on the street as a result of spending all his money on life-saving surgery he was unable to get in England.

David West, 72, from Corsley near Frome, has spent years travelling between the United States and his home in Wiltshire for medical treatments he believes he was unable to get in England.

As a result of spending so much time out of the country he has racked up thousands of pounds of debt – to Wiltshire County Council for housing benefit he should not have been receiving and to his landlord for months of unpaid rent.

Reading the whole of this article actually negates the point I think you are quite rightly making. When it gets to the point that this man is saying he is dis-illusioned with The NHS, rather than the government that is running it down, he is playing right into the Tories’ hands. They want more people saying this, to validate their privatisation plans in peoples’ opinions.

The new Tory Regime mantra, Vote Tory and die, you know they want you to.

You also missed the part about putting up with all there lies and having irresponsible unqualified ministers for the roles there actually undertaking while actually pretending to be someone that really cares

I don’t see what else he could do. In his position I’d have done the same.
