Charity warns against huge harm Tory cuts are causing to services for the homeless

Please consider signing the petition.

The drop in government funding of services for the homeless indicates exactly where the Conservative Government’s priorities lie.

Tories want to make life for the poor as difficult as possible – and if people end up on the streets, they want it to end.

It is as simple as that.

Those of us who are in danger of the kind of misfortune that could dump us onto the streets – an increasing percentage of the population, thanks to Tory policies – need to send a message that this is not acceptable.

Or do you just want to lie down, roll over and take it?

The UK Government is in danger of causing ‘irreparable damage’ to supported housing for homeless people, a leading charity has warned.

Rough sleeping in England has soared by 134 per cent over the past five years, with as many as 4,134 individuals sleeping rough on any one night. Estimates suggest 4 in 10 rough sleepers have mental health problems are at risk of violence and abuse.

Hostels provide homeless people with a safe place to spend the night and can help people escape homelessness for good and rebuild their lives.

A Government green paper, due to be published this spring, will outline how homeless services will be funded in future years.

National Audit Office analysis shows this has already been cut by 45 per cent since 2010/11. St Mungo’s is urging the Government not to put vital services at risk by reducing funding even further.

St Mungo’s is asking people to sign a petition that calls on the Government to rethink plans to change the way homeless hostels are funded, which they warn could result in an increase in rough sleeping.

The anti disabled unemployed attitude of the government which started in the thatcher years and has continued since is a disgusting reflection on our political class, if it wasn’t for bodies like St Mungo’s it is hard to see how those who really are the bottom of the pile, in the eyes of those who make the decisions, could survive. I echo Mikes request please sign the petition.

Though the biggest and ‘hardest’ thing to take during my 10yrs of homelessness was realising that 95% of the population really didn’t give a toss whether you lived or died!
You either became ‘invisible’ to them or became just an eyesore!
That was back in the ’70’s, the way ‘everyday’ values have dropped since, things certainly wouldn’t have improved in that time!

Yes David I am ashamed to say your words truly reflect todays society. However that does not excuse the local councils from washing their hands of the situation and leaning heavily on the voluntary organisations to make up for the Councils lack of interest and disrespect for some of these vulnerable folk. Quiet a few of these homeless most likely require medical assistance in one form or the other or who are victims of the Councils own eviction or homeless processes .

i went to sign the petition but found they want my full address. why? im not prepared to give it. name n town should be enough as most other petitions only ask for..ill sign any petition im asked to if, like this one, i agree with it but not by putting myself at risk. dont care if they say it wont be given out. im responsible for my own online security as well as my personal security in my own home.and any database of names and addresses can be infiltrated by hackers as has happened a number of times even with large firms/institutions etc in the past.
