Mass media fail: Claims crash because Labour ISN’T in trouble over Teresa Pearce resignation

It’s pathetic, isn’t it?

Teresa Pearce took over as shadow secretary of state for communities and local government last October – on a temporary basis, standing in for Grahame Morris, who was suffering from an illness.

She has just announced her resignation, her reason being that Mr Morris’s illness has lasted longer than anyone expected and the party needs a new – permanent – spokesperson for communities and local government.

But that’s not good enough for the right-wing media – including, as you can see from the extract below – your new, right-wing Guardian.

Why is it a blow for Jeremy Corbyn if one of his team resigns in order to strengthen the whole?

It isn’t.

Ms Pearce will go after this year’s local elections, at which Labour is allegedly facing expected losses of 50 seats, according to doomsayers whose dire predictions, one can’t help noticing, are noticeably less extreme than last year’s.

In 2016, we were told Labour would lose 100 seats. In fact, the party lost 18 – at a time when the right-wing media were battering the party hard with all manner of made-up nonsense, including allegations of anti-Semitism against Ken Livingstone that are set to be dismissed – at long last – on Tuesday (April 4).

My prediction: Labour will make gains.

Teresa Pearce will step down as Labour’s shadow communities secretary after the May local elections following just over seven months in the role, the Guardian understands.

Figures within the party have suggested she will be replaced by Roberta Blackman Woods, MP for the City of Durham, who has a more junior role within the same team.

The move could be seen as a blow for Jeremy Corbyn, the party leader, who has at times struggled at times to fill frontbench positions since a second resounding leadership victory.

The problem with the mass media is that it doesn’t see it’s role to present factual news and reflect what the people are thinking it wants to misdirect and lead public opinion.
