Labour slashes Tory lead by a further FIVE points in two days – Skwawkbox

Last Updated: April 30, 2017By

I’m not going to go quite as far as Skwawkbox on the basis of this poll – the others were by YouGov, while this one is by ORB – but the direction of travel seems clear: Tories down – Labour up.

At this rate, Labour’s lead will be enormous by polling day.

A single week of General Election campaigning – with Corbyn taking the streets by storm and Theresa May hiding in empty factories or speaking to a handful of acolytes in strictly stage-managed settings – saw the Tories’ polling lead over Labour fall by a huge eight points.

A new poll, announced … by Britain Elects, shows a further fall – from 16 percentage points to 11 – in just two days.

The damage is to the local elections which have suddenly become sidetracked due to May’s panicked opportunism. The conversations I’m having on the doorstep since the announcement as compared to before are very different. Keeping things local and looking at local issues seems to be less relevant.

Also I’m getting weird breakdowns. Labour member who joined cos of Corbyn saying he might not vote labour locally because of disloyalty in the national party! I’m still trying to get my head round that one. Others saying they always voted labour but can’t support Corbyn. Still others who say they’ve never voted labour but will this time because of Corbyn. Finally there’s the ones who will still vote labour despite Corbyn or irrespective of or because of.

I really don’t know what to make of the responses and have no real idea of how these locals are going and speaking to the other candidates they’re all saying they don’t know what to make of it.

Mother T on the box twice this Sunday….not very people friendly feel about her interview answers. Whilst her manifesto will be sprinkled with the usual trinkets and beads for the natives unfortunately with Cons lying track record cannot guarantee that anything will be delivered. Hopefully the local elections will show some leaning towards Labour as some of the Tory councils have been just as devious and cunning as their main political party in delivering their cuts and saving plans..
