Arrogance will be the undoing of ‘Theresa Me’

Theresa May: ‘Power seems to have gone to her head in such a short time.’ [Image: Xinhua / Barcroft Images].

Here’s a (mostly) good piece from the Graun, highlighting Theresa May’s plunge into self-centred delusion, and the reasons for it.

I’ve picked out the best bits; see the rest using the link at the bottom. Of course the claim that the Tories have this election “in the bag” is utterly ludicrous in a piece that character-assassinates their leader.

For Theresa, every day is May Day. I have taken to calling her Theresa Me.

Let me fight for Britain”; “my country”; “vote for me and my team”. That last one she repeated three times in her speech this morning. Her recent addiction to the first-person pronoun contradicts the portrait of May that had previously been painted: that of the unflashy, head down, get-on-with-the-job safe pair of hands. The core narrative of getting on with the job has remained, but now there’s an uneasy showmanship marinated in that second cousin of ambition – arrogance (May has always been ambitious, back to her Oxford days when she nursed hopes of becoming the first female prime minister).

Corbyn… has done well to shift the narrative away from him. Labour has finally started rolling out policies. Good policies, too. Ones that are popular. Ones that the Tories are trying to paint as pie-in-the-sky, but do seem to be costed and not triple spent.

May is overcompensating. This isn’t surprising – it happens often with the naturally introverted when required to be extroverts. Instead of “confident”, they overreach and hit “arrogant”. Think of every know-it-all-nerd you went to school with: probably nice underneath, but they came across as pompous, try-hard brats.

I don’t get it, no matter how bad the reports on the Tories are, how arrogant they are and how they have pretty much “scorched earth” this once great country against the poor and disabled, yet the Graun commentators are still for May and calling JC such awful names, i’m starting to think the Graun readership is full of Tory wannabes who seem to have fulfilling jobs and lives!

How can anyone believe the arrogance, Cameron was just as arrogant and he managed to win.

I was devastated waking in 2015 to a Tory government, I can not cope with it again!! I have already lost a voluntary position I held for ten years, because of their vicious cuts!

The charity I was with was like a family to me now I have lost that, they are too busy keeping their heads above water I have nothing to lose now!!

Arrogant and thoroughly dishonest and nasty Joanna. Why do working class people still vote for them and totally against their own interests? I can only assume that many people fall for the dishonest propaganda pumped out by the much of the press. I despair, I really do.

I abandoned the Guardian a month or so ago after 30 plus years of readership. It has lost its balance and seems not to be remotely interested in regaining it. And it is not so much that, but it uses deliberately misleading headlines. Like the one about people shouting down a journalist at a Corbyn rally. (aka delegates at a small business event who justifiably took exception to a journalist asking questions about Syria when the event was about the small business community and Jeremy Corbyn had just outlined Labour’s policies for small businesses). That was the straw that broke the camel’s back for me.

Mayhem has the same megalomaniac tendencies as her predecessor, Thatcher. Have we got to the royal “we” yet?
