A member of the public finally got to talk to Theresa May – and said he preferred Corbyn

So much for ‘Team Theresa May’ and its carefully stage-managed campaign events.

Earlier today, Channel 4 reporter Michael Crick made a point of explaining how reporters are treated at an event in Leeds:

He continued:

And he made this very good point:

So much for the “free” press – 80 per cent of them are owned by five Tory-voting tax avoiders, according to one response on Twitter.

If This Writer had been there, I would probably have done as a friend suggested – submit one question and then ask something completely different when my time came. What could the Tories do? If they didn’t at least try to answer, they’d be admitting that the whole rigmarole was a sham.

Labour’s press team had already debunked the event:

So it is probably to their credit that the Tories at least tried to present an appearance of putting Mrs May together with a member of the public. Unfortunately for them (but great for us), this happened:

How did Mrs May respond? I don’t have video evidence but it probably looked something like this:

Yes – I love that cat video. The wonderful thing about it is it is always appropriate.

I gather a Tory stooge was holding the microphone ready to urn it off if the “wrong” question was asked? Sorry, but I can’t remember the source, save that it was on Facebook.
