‘Enough is enough’, says Theresa May. Yes, we’ve had enough – OF HER

Last Updated: June 6, 2017By

The ongoing row over Tory underfunding of police and intelligence services should be the final nail in the coffin of Theresa May’s political career – and of Conservative government.

It is now clear that Mrs May and the Conservative Party that she wants to form the UK government for the next five years has crippled our ability to detect terrorism on UK soil, and to prevent attacks such as those in Manchester and London.

Not only that, but her claim that “enough is enough” is laughable. Is she trying to fool us into forgetting that she has been responsible for this decline? “Enough is enough” means we should say we’ve had enough of herShe is responsible.

Barry Gardiner has it right here, attacking Theresa May on her failures to support British policing:

Mrs May’s response to the row has exhibited the weakness that we now know is typical of her approach to government. She is not a stateswoman. Watch how she ignores a question about her cuts to policing, delivering waffle instead:

In the same press conference, she lied about Tory support for police numbers. Peter Stefanovic straightens the record here:

Here are the facts – her actual record show that she has cut the number of police officers in England and Wales – massively:

Here are the same figures, put slightly differently:

Mrs May has been called out as a hypocrite for attacking Jeremy Corbyn and the Labour Party (Mr Corbyn has made manifesto pledges to restore policing and intelligence to pre-Tory levels):

For the record, you can compare Mrs May and Mr Corbyn on their anti-terror voting record. She doesn’t come out of it very well!

Put succinctly, this row has show that Theresa May is a threat to national security. We cannot tolerate such a threat continuing as prime minister:

She has a serious question to answer:

And her record speaks against her:

Yesterday, there were calls for Mrs May to resign, endorsed by Mr Corbyn. He later rowed back on that, saying there was no point in demanding her resignation now, when she’ll be removed from office by the voters on Thursday. Good point.

It was supported by journalist Paul Mason, who put a call for us to vote Mrs May out in order to show we don’t want support for terrorism in our government:

And what about the Brexit angle? Mrs May called the election, intending to make it entirely about her claim that the Conservatives were the strongest party to negotiate the terms of the UK’s departure from the European Union. In fact, she has turned out to be so weak that she must not get anywhere near the negotiating table with her team of flunkes – BoJo the International Clown, David Davis and Liam Fox:

Meanwhile the Tories have been attacking Jeremy Corbyn, alleging he has links with terrorism – and getting slammed for it:

In fact, Corbyn warned May in 2015 that her cuts would affect the UK’s anti-terror response:

And despite being reviled for bringing questions from the public to Prime Minister’s Questions, this, from 2016, seems timely:

We have learned that the recent terror attacks could have been prevented – but weren’t:

And the public response has been exactly what it should have been:

The moral of this tale is twofold. Firstly:

But this is also important:

It seems the decades-long marriage between the police and the Conservative Party is ending in an acrimonious divorce.

What would this mean, if the Tories were to form another government on Friday?

It is best not to find out.

There is no reason to vote Conservative on Thursday. None at all.

They have failed in their prime duty to protect the citizens of the UK.

Their domestic policies promise more punishment for ordinary people, in order to provide even more luxurious lives for the idle rich.

In the end, it seems our choice on Thursday is no choice at all.

The only practical way to vote is to vote Labour.
