Here’s why James Chapman has been attacking David Davis – he’s launching a new anti-Brexit party

We’ve had Social Democrats, English Democrats, British Democrats and who knows how many others, so why not a party called, simply, ‘The Democrats’?

It will undoubtedly sink without a trace after its launch on September 9 – or maybe merge with the Liberal Democrats, as the SDP did. In true, Spitting Image, style they could use words from each party’s name – ‘Liberal’, from the Liberal Democrats, and ‘Democrats’ from The Democrats.

The nascent party is the reason James Chapman, former chief of staff at the Department for Exiting the European Union, launched his Twitter assault on his former boss, David Davis, earlier this week.

At least some of his comments were justified, as discussed in This Site’s article yesterday (August 15), but nobody in the UK wants a new political organisation watering-down the situation we have at the moment.

It simply won’t get any support.

As negotiations for Britain’s departure from the EU rumble on, a new pro-EU opposition party led by the government’s former Brexit adviser is poised for a September unveiling.

‘The Democrats’, which pitch themselves as an anti-Brexit, centrist party, unveiled on Twitter Monday its logo and the sale of branded merchandise as it seeks to raise support – and funds – for an event scheduled to take place in London on September 9.

The announcement was made by James Chapman, who previously worked as Brexit Secretary David Davis’ chief of staff within the government’s Department for Exiting the European Union.

Since quitting the role, Chapman, the former political editor of the Daily Mail, has been vocal in his rejection of the U.K.’s decision to leave the EU and has cited support from several other members of parliament, including the current Conservative government.

The make-up of the prospective party is as yet unclear. When contacted by CNBC via Twitter, Chapman said that further details would be released in September.

He did however highlight intentions to focus on increased borrowing for investment in infrastructure, as well as healthcare and pension reforms.

      It’s a thing, isn’t it?
James Chapman seems to have lost his head, big-time.

So an anti democratic would be party calls itself the democrats to oppose democracy, a bit like the independent is against independence. No wonder the youth of today are confused.
