Shiny new Tory ‘youth’ movement is full of the same tired soundbites

The best information This Writer could get from it was that the troubled organisation’s official launch will be on October 14 (never mind the appallingly cack-handed Twitter postings and the WhatsApp controversy – they weren’t official, it seems) – when it will publicise a 60-second video of the afore-mentioned Mr Ancliff explaining why he became a Conservative.
It’ll be gripping. I can’t wait.
The best parts of the interview are Mr Ancliff’s defences of the various scandals that have hit Activate in the week or so since it made its presence felt on Twitter and in its own dedicated website. His complaints about the abuse he alleges has be levelled against his members is risible when one compares it to that suffered by Labour supporters, from Tories.
But much of it is very similar to every interview with a Conservative that we’ve heard over the last few years, concentrating on the idea that Labour is bad. As interviewer Josh Hamilton points out, it seems that is all the Conservative Party has to say.
Maybe Activate will be able to prove us all wrong, and come out with new and exciting perspectives on right-wing politics.
But I doubt it.

Please check out Novara Media’s Facebook page. On Monday on their excellent weekly programme “The Fix” they interviewed a young man called Thomas Wellington who insists he’s the founder of Activate. He has the Twitter page while his rivals have the original Facebook page. He seemed to be a classic Tory mix of arrogance and brittleness. It’s entertaining though and the suppressed hostility between him and his hosts is pretty obvious. There’s a quiet giggle from Michael Walker at the end.
If it’s associated with the Tories its full of lies and exploitative.
