DWP whistleblower from ESA helpline exposes ‘obscene’ system

Once again the Disability News Service exposes the methods used by the Department for Work and Pensions to victimise the vulnerable. Read:

A Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) whistleblower has described how a “mismanaged” and under-funded social security system is leaving many disability benefit claimants penniless and helpless.

George* works on DWP’s employment and support allowance (ESA) helpline and has told Disability News Service (DNS) that the experience has left him shocked and frustrated at the deeply flawed system.

And he also says he believes – although he does not have direct evidence of this – that DWP decision-makers do have targets for the proportion of claimants that they need to find “fit for work”, and so ineligible for ESA.

A colleague in another part of DWP, who works with a decision-maker, told him that this member of staff “hates his job” because he has to “disallow people” and had been “struggling to hit his disallowance targets”.

Although DNS has been unable to verify this claim, disabled activists have been warning for years that they believe DWP decision-makers, and the healthcare professionals who work for the government contractor Maximus, are set targets for the proportion of claimants they must find fit for work.

not really a surprise to be honest, ch4 dispatches showed the best of there best and leads into the question that if that person showed and that standard of exceptional training showed then the obvious of the system being badly flawed or allowed to happen, the complaints process to capita is a joke and really it should be high time that assessors and dm’s are held criminally accountable, they are also undermining the nhs as I know of quite a few cases where people not engaging with there gp’s when they need to because of fear, then that is what tory wants a second rate system and they are good at that, they need to be got rid of not chucking 1.5 bungs because they know there not people you can trust, strong and stable really pathetic and horrible, then again that is common knowledge

George*, is to be commended, albeit anonymously. It’s a shame others do not have the courage to expose this corrupt system. Had those German WW2 ’employees’ in the know stood up early enough, perhaps the course of history would have changed.

And yet everything now being used to get people back to work the medical the WCA and ESA , are all labour or Blair idea of a medical. Brown put forward to end DLA, if was saved by Tories and labour left, but now we have Pip’s using Blair’s WCA.

I was seen by a doctor who wrote on the medical this patient will never work again ATOS who were paid 10 times more for the appeals decide I was fit, they actually said appeal , and they pushed for me to appeal the case, it made them millions so of course they would .

But cuts means we are the target , so what do we do, well I’d say vote labour , but it all started with labour , those same MPs who backed it are still in labour .

    SO I’ve no idea .

No, it started with the Conservatives. Haven’t you read my articles about Peter Lilley bringing in the Unum Corporation from the US to advise on social security issues, with a view to privatising the system? When Labour took over, Unum was well-ensconced in what became the Department for Work and Pensions and we ended up with the mess we have today.
