As right-wing press witch-hunts Labour MPs, let’s remember the Tories aren’t innocent

Stone Age: Alan Scard.

We’re going to see a lot of column-inches taken up with talking down the Labour Party over the next few weeks and months, because the Tories are so diabolically useless, even to themselves.

We need to keep a sense of balance, so let’s highlight the case of Cllr Alan Scard, whose attitude to women is from the Stone Age.

He seems to think that ability to engage with the political issues of the day, linked with representing the interests of constituents, has nothing to do with membership of Parliament – women should be allowed to become MPs if they are pretty enough.

Is this Conservative Party policy?

Cllr Alan Scard – who as Chairman of Gosport Conservative Association is in charge of selecting parliamentary candidates – when asked by Channel 4 news if he would support putting more women in Parliament:

“If they are attractive, yeah I would go for it. I know it’s a sexist thing to say, but you could get the blokes saying ‘Oh you know, I would vote for her because she’s really attractive’.”

Tories don’t hesitate to throw sneering insults, but they don’t like to be on the receiving end when their, usually very unpleasant, shenanigans are publicised.

So what is the story with the labour MP who rid us of Clegg in sheffield then? Not sure whether the mass media is being honest.

I was going to do a story but didn’t get to it, and to be honest I thought I’d missed my opportunity. Perhaps I’ll try to get one on the site over the weekend.
