British people want another vote on Brexit – and Jeremy Corbyn may be ready to support it

Jeremy Corbyn has been in Lisbon.

Pollsters Survation have outdone themselves this time.

Not only have they revealed that Labour has an eight-point lead over the Conservatives, but they have also shown that the electorate wants another chance to vote on Brexit.

And Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn may be willing to indulge them.

According to that august publication the Portugal Resident, Mr Corbyn “hinted that he could be open to holding a second referendum on Brexit as the consequences of leaving the European Union become clearer”.

The public want a second referendum after the Government botched the first round of Brexit negotiations, according to a new poll.

The Survation poll showed 50% of people now believe there should be another vote on the final deal. Just 34% think no further referendum is needed.

The poll also showed that 41% of people were increasingly fearful about Britain’s prospects outside the European Union.

I think if we had a vote over Brexit I think it would be remain

brexit was always a non starter for the very simple reason countries like japan and the USA have full access to trade deals and there country’s have been at zero growth for many years with very high levels of debt

the uk on leaving the EU will get what ? there’s nothing to get other then what we already have?

everything you purchase right now is mainly foreign and that will continue. as for our exports they will be cheaper but who needs them ? china can supply like they do as now the whole world so brexit is nothing whatsoever to do with trade deals

there is no need for any country to buy anything from the uk other then sprits and niche products for the wealthy and for the life of me cant understand the reasoning as to why the public voted for something they would never have understood as they are not world business leaders nor investors

as for immigration how would they even know if migration was going up or down as that could only be a reliable statement coming from someone with integrity and that someone isn’t in government to start with

as for the other brexit policy’s they don’t make any sense at all so therefore even I cant make a comment

I think (and hope) that, in the light of proper accurate information and the likely disastrous results of BREXIT, that Jeremy should give us the opportunity for another referendum when I trust that the British people would really wake up and realize what they will be losing if we go ahead with this basically Tory deception for the sake of power over us!

Brexit is a diversion and distortion away from the real argument as to what sort of country we want.

We are a sovereign country with our own sovereign currency, that is not the case with other countries in Europe.

Whilst so many talk of the disastrous negotiating stance of the Tories, what they tend to forget is that that is because the Tories want a trade agreement with Trump and are deliberately creating chaos as this diverts attention away from what they are doing at home here. Namely dismantling the state.

What we should be doing is cutting through the hyperbole about the obvious damage in the short term and concentrate on the damage the Tories are currently inflicting on us.

The idea that if we had a second referendum the outcome would be any different is not a given as most proclaim it is. What new arguments are there that weren’t discussed before, people talk of the lies of the brexiteers, but what about the lies of the pro Europeeans?

Europe is not a stable country governed on behalf of it’s people, it is made up of 26 right wing governments all working for corporate interests, if people hang on to the idea that the social chapter will protect us then all Britain has to do is adopt it wholesale. The reality is that Neo-Liberal Europe is no different to this Neo-Liberal government here where they all have the same objectives. What we need to do is to get rid of this vile government and elect a Labour Government uninhibited by Free Market dogma and legislation that is destroying the European economy as well as our own.

It turns out the Brexiters’ lies were actual lies, whereas the Remainers’ lies were not. Give us an example of a lie you claim was put forward by an official ‘Remain’ campaign, if you can.
Europe isn’t made up of 26 right-wing governments; it is composed of 27 governments that are on various points along the political spectrum.
Under the Tories, the UK will not be signing up to the Social Chapter, so you’re right – we do need to get rid of the Tories and elect Labour.

Remain lies and propaganda, aka project fear has long since been proven to be just that, the only example of lies from leave that we get regularly from remain is that the money promised for the NHS isn’t going to it, because they seem to be incapable of understanding the money is still going where they voted for it all to go the economic black hole in brussels.

        • Mike Sivier December 5, 2017 at 1:19 am - Reply

Barry, how many times do I have to tell you?
The money promised for the NHS will NEVER go to it as the amount promised is false. The UK has NEVER paid £350m a week into the EU. In fact, as I demonstrated in an article many months ago, our membership of the EU makes the UK an annual profit of BILLIONS of pounds.
Now, since you’re so keen to prove there were lies on the ‘Remain’ side, please provide an example. It must be an example of a lie that was put forward by an official ‘Remain’ campaign, as an official reason for asking people to vote ‘Remain’.
Put your money where your mouth is.

@ Rotzeichen – completely agree with your analysis. The only issue is sovereignty – it’s difficult enough for the UK’s electorate to achieve sufficient consensus to hold our own neo-liberal governing elite to account but it is absolutely impossible for EU citizens to form any consensus across the 28 member states. The EU is effectively unaccountable and undemocratic.

Survation can’t be right on both counts. First things first. Only IF Jeremy becomes PM can he set up a Referendum. If he doesn’t, no referendum would be held.
Only ONE thing matters at this point. JEREMY must LEAD LABOUR – with the most INCREASED majority possible at this most PERILOUS of times.
Throughout the whole period – and following it – huge care must be taken to protect him against many evil forces, whilst at the same time, encouraging like-minded & like-hearted colleagues to build an international Force for Good.

    • Mike Sivier December 4, 2017 at 8:43 pm - Reply

      You seem confused.
The survation poll simply showed that more of the population want a second referendum than don’t.
Jeremy Corbyn reportedly said later that he was open to the idea of having such a referendum. Survation didn’t say anything about that. You’re right that Mr Corbyn would have to be prime minister to arrange a second referendum – but, again, Survation didn’t say anything about that.
You’re right about your second paragraph. I’m not sure he’ll need to be protected all that much, though.

As far as I understand, Survation first gave a splendid lead of 8 points, then followed it with a 2nd forecast that the Tories would win a coalition majority in the next election.
I think the requirement for protection will become very clear – and real once it is clear that he will, indeed, become PM. The evidence is out there – but viewing it is made difficult.

    • Mike Sivier December 5, 2017 at 1:24 am - Reply

I see no evidence of any forecast that the Tories would win a coalition majority in the next election. Citation please.

41% were fearful of brexit, well that is less than voted remain, so clearly the amount who fell for project fear is declining.

    • Mike Sivier December 5, 2017 at 1:20 am - Reply

      You really think?
Each to their own, I suppose.

At last! This could be his chance to ‘honour the people’s decision’ and remain in the EU. Clearly, he could not be seen to ignore the result of the initial referendum and that prevented him from making the correct decision…to remain!
