If there are no Brexit impact assessments, the entire Tory government is grossly negligent and must go

Martin Odoni makes excellent points about the absence of Brexit impact assessments.

I would not stop at Davis. Nor would I stop at his department. The entire administration now has to go.

Every MP on the Opposition benches, in Labour, in the SNP, in the Liberal Democrats, in Plaid Cymru, Caroline Lucas of the Green Party, and all the ‘Others’, must now unite to demand that the whole Government of Theresa May resign. The position of the entire administration is untenable, and not just because of Davis’ fabrications. The Government’s position has in fact been indictable since the day Article-50 was activated in March, and so the whole Government has to stand down.

What Davis has admitted is even more serious than some people realise; no one in the Conservative Party has been making necessary assessments of Brexit’s likely effects. The Referendum was effectively called in May 2015 when the Tories won that year’s General Election, including it as a gesture to ‘buy’ up assurances of support from the party’s extremist fringe. Since then, two-and-a-half years have passed, during which the Referendum has been and gone, the Leave vote won, Article-50 has been activated, and we have had approximately six months of fruitless negotiations in Brussels. In all of that time, no one in either Cameron’s Government or May’s has even bothered to assess what the actual impact of Brexit will be?

Makes one wonder if risk assessments exist for the NHS, Universal Credit and/or Disability Benefits (Social Security).

For the NHS, yes they do. They’re probably out of date now as they were written in 2011 or 2012.

Corrupt and totally incompetent. Using the general public to settle an internal Tory Party squabble. They are despicable.

I totally agree with the whole tory party resigning under the grounds of gross negligence. They are at fault over brexit and their shameful handling of it.

Has nay party done an impact assessment, we all know the remaoners project fear so called impact assessments were untrue, this is just remaoner Starmer trying to make a mountain out of a pimple.

It was for the Conservative government to carry out impact assessments as the government of the day has access to all the relevant information.
We know now that the Brextremists (see? I can use derogatory language about the other side of this debate too) have absolutely no interest in the facts of life after leaving the EU.
As for evidence produced by Remain supporters: I’m still waiting for you to come out with proof of untruth by this side. Where is it?

Really saddening to see the minds of the Leave propagandists continue to be so unsophisticated. They still imagine that calling an opponent a “Remoaner” will somehow invalidate any point made. The reality of the current crisis – and yes it IS a crisis now – is far more important and complex than the lazy, non-constructive slanging matches that they seem intent on turning them into.

Barry, get this into your head, please; Brexit is poised to be incredibly painful for the British population now. It didn’t necessarily have to be, but the Government has urinated away (to put it politely) nearly eight months of precious negotiation time, in a process that was barely possible to fit into the two years given. This is not a ‘mountain-out-of-a-pimple’. It’s now pretty near impossible for withdrawal from the EU to be carried out in a way that doesn’t cause huge economic turmoil. And as if that wasn’t bad enough, it’s now been admitted by the Government that they never even had the information they needed in the first place, meaning a bearable transition was *never* even going to be possible. A process this huge and this complicated needed enormous preparation and clear planning before beginning, and it’s now inescapable; the Government carrying it out had NO plan and had done NO preparation at the outset. It’s an entire administration guilty of dereliction-of-duty.

You have no idea what’s going to hit us at the start of April 2019 if events continue their present course, and when it does, your macho sneers and unimaginative name-calling will offer you no protection from it.
